Was it a hardcover book?

I think some guys have had trade paperbacks made by binding old copies of the comics,
but that's not the same as this new hardback product (with new material).

Until we get official word, all we have is speculation but I am using Arkhams Razor for this one. The release timeframe coincided with the world going into a financial crisis and severe credit crunch.

In my opinion, it is more likely the liquidity that was there to release an expensive reprint with less than 10% new material in this kind of unstable market is an economic risk I wouldn't want to take right now either.

Investors are super skitterish right now, with good reason.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

According to the listed website, it's the HC and a limited edition print. Below is the copy for the contest from www.bookspotcentral.com

****************************************************

Contest - Archer and Armstrong: First Impressions and limited X-O Manowar Lithograph
October 2nd, 2008 by Jay | Filed under Comic Book, Completed Contest, Graphic Novel.
Today I’m announcing another contest opportunity here at BookSpotCentral; nothing new in itself but something a bit new in what we are offering. We will have two winners in this drawing, one a grand prize winner, and one second place winner. Both will win a copy of Archer and Armstrong: First Impressions, a recently released hardcover from VALIANT Entertainment collecting issues#0-6 of by Jim Shooter and the legendary Barry Windsor-Smith.

Synopsis:

Archer & Armstrong is a superhero buddy comedy without the tights. Archer is the world s greatest hand-to-hand fighter, an expert marksman, and a seeker of truth and righteousness. Since being murdered by his parents, he has returned from the dead convinced that God has empowered him to right the wrongs of the world. Armstrong is a ten-thousand year old libertine as strong as a battalion who abandoned naive idealism thousands of years ago. He spends his days wandering the world drinking, fighting. And telling stories of his unbelievable adventures throughout history. On the run from an ancient cult and its bumbling agents that have been hunting Armstrong for two thousand years, the unlikely pair team up to face down the threat that could destroy the world!

Along with the aforementioned issues, First Impressions also includes an all-new ten page Formation of the Sect story written by Jim Shooter and illustrated by original Valiant creators Sal Velutto and Bob Almond. Plus:

- Jim Shooter’s full script for the all-new Formation of the Sect story including an alternate ending.
- a behind the scenes look into the creation of the new cover by Michael Golden (X-Men) from sketch to printed cover.
- Contains an exclusive in-depth interview with Jim Shooter on Archer & Armstrong.

The Grand Prize winner will win a copy of First Impressions and a limited X-O Manowar Lithograph:

The lithograph is being donated by Greg Holland, the webmaster of VALIANTCOMICS.com and features another of VALIANT’s signature characters, X-O Manowar. This character’s origin issues were also recently collected in hardcover within X-O Manowar: Birth which includes issues I reviewed for BookSpotCentral.com last year. I asked Mr. Holland to offer some details about the lithograph:

“the lithograph started as a Bob Layton commission from ValiantFans.com member Chris Gould. I believe that Chris Gould wanted to see an X-O Manowar collage similar to the Solar collage that was solicited (and later cancelled) by D.F. The commission became a “fan project” after obtaining VEI’s permission to have a limited number printed, though it is still an unofficial fan-produced lithograph.”

“They are 19″x24″, heavy cardstock, with a small hologram and embossed seal. “

In short, we are talking a limited lithograph by Bob Layton, and if you’re a VALIANT fan like I am you know how we covet all things that don the VALIANT logo with smeagolish persistence.

This contest is open to all BookSpotCentral members, just PM (private message) me at our forums and you’re entered. A winner will be drawn on October 15th. Please include address/shipping information with your entry so we can get the prizes out to you as quickly as possible.

Please be sure to visit our contest page to be kept up to date with all current contests hosted at BookSpotCentral. We currently are running three active contests for signed books and adding more all the time!

I want to thank VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT and Mr. Holland for enabling BookSpotCentral to offer this opportunity to our readers.

*************************************************

The BOLD partsd are stuff I highlighted as points of interest. Bottom line, grifter78 may have won the contest, but since the book hasn't been released, he might have a wait before he sees his prize.

I'm sure this contest was based on belief that the book would be out on time. Just another example of the fans going out of their way to promote VEI. I, as well as several others, won a copy from AICN.com but I don't have it yet and won't until it gets released.

True... I was taking grifter78's post to say that it was a book he had in hand...
if he won a contest and doesn't have the book yet... well, neither do we.

This is the same site that I won the Harby HC from (I believe).

The envelope has Book Spot Central's physical address on it. I had forgotten the contest mentioned it was for the X-O trade but hey, I'll take this one! :D

(Just took these pics to answer a post asking if this was legitimate or if someone had bound old issues together)

Just speculation. We've had no official word since the book missed the release date at the end of September.

I emailed Ambush Bug a while back to see if he had any word, he replied that he would be in contact with someone at VEI. Haven't heard anything since.
