Solar #40 - was the plot changed?
I originaly posted this in the "Re-reading" section but it doesn't get alot of traffic there so I figured I'd post it here.

so this might have been discussed before (I am a search maroon) but what do you all think?maybe not the best place to post this and maybe its been addressed before, but was the story changed midstream or did anyone else notice how on page 22, panel 3 Phil has a green eye and a brown eye?
typically the visual cue that Immortal Enemy has possessed somebody.
that would have been much cooler if they went that route. I am catching up on books I picked up while reorganizing my collection, and I am missing quite a few monthly collectible pamphlets that come directly after this story, so maybe they did.

Yeah I never would've noticed thatIanAlexavier wrote:I agree.. that would have been a MAJOR event.. cool story.. maybe not the right time. So what was going on editorially at that time? Maybe someone started thinking, "Hmm this is a really good story but.. its gunna effect everyone if we do it right.."
Interesting.. Nice catch though

Very nice catch. I think it could have been a great story, if that is what they meant to do. Further, I wonder if this is something that got lost in the shuffle immediatly prior to BQ or, if some of the things I've heard are true, that this was part of what BQ was originally going to be. We all know that they brought in new writers and artists, at high prices, in order to try to up sales, as well as going to a bi-weekly schedule. But, I've also read in some places where there was going to be an actual STORY that would have tied "BQ" together in a cohesive manner. Valiant might have lost some steam by this time, but it was still viable. BQ was just the final nail in the coffin of the original universe. Any thoughts?IanAlexavier wrote:I agree.. that would have been a MAJOR event.. cool story.. maybe not the right time. So what was going on editorially at that time? Hmm. I'v never heard this. I've interviewed Kevin VanHook, who was writing 2 bi-weekly BQ titles at the time, and he never mentioned BQ as anything other than an attempt to increase sales. I'd love to hear more about this if you can remember where you read it.xodacia81 wrote:But, I've also read in some places where there was going to be an actual STORY that would have tied "BQ" together in a cohesive manner.
All I can imagine is a gathering of the heroes where everyone asks, "WTF happened to *YOU*?"

Well, if VanHook has said nothing, then I'll take his word for it. I always thought BQ was just a money grab with no rhyme or reason, but then I read some other things and, given the chaos at the company during that period, I always wondered. If KVH has said nothing about it, then I will assume there is no validity.BloodOfHeroes wrote:Hmm. I'v never heard this. Immortal Enemy always had a great appeal to me as a character and nemesis to Gil...and really the rest of the Valiant Universe. I always felt he was underused and that certainly would have had him challenging the top 2 (Harada and Darque) imo.

Well, I ever specifically asked him that question. He might have pretty much stuck to "party line" explanations, detailing what DID happen, rather than what was supposed to have happened.xodacia81 wrote:Well, if VanHook has said nothing, then I'll take his word for it. I'd say it warrants further inquiry, at least.

Didn't he get stranded in the Arctic somewhere? I still think that once that host died (from exposure) that the IE would be free to move on.myron wrote:I was always p.o.ed at how they "got rid" of IE...one of the worst EW stories they put out...Zaphod wrote:Immortal Enemy always had a great appeal to me as a character and nemesis to Gil...and really the rest of the Valiant Universe. Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
