Hey, dave. Been mostly lurking and binding my Valiants. When new stuff doesn't come out, I don't have a lot to talk about.

Yeah, but by the time they got everything rolling, the splash was gone along with the majority of their perceived audience.

I can really relate—I’m 33. Coincidentally I too was picking up most of my comics at convenience stores during the 80’s. And like you I was trying to keep up with Detective but with the Mud Pack run I missed 606—go figure.

Steve Topper wrote:At this point and with this little information on what is going on, I've completely lost interest in the book. Eight new pages for $24.95 (without a discount) is not justifiable in my mind, given the delays and the deafening silence.

I'm getting an early-Image vibe out of this. Splash announcement, missed shipping date, and then silence regarding actual shipping. I'm sure it'll show up some time, but at the cost of retailer and consumer confidence? And, at what point does this get cancelled by Diamond and have to be resolicited?
I won't say that I'm losing interest in the book.... no matter what, I just don't see that as possible. I do see how this could possibly hurt them with the casual reader / new reader. Not really now, but if this becomes the norm.

The reason I don't think it hurts them too much now is that the heavy fans are are the only ones really missing this book right now. The new fan that it's designed to pick up will probably only notice it sitting on the stands after the release. So, they won't even know it was late.

If this becomes the norm, though, it could hurt them a lot. It's already got people questioning the stability of the company and if you're a new reader that might give you second thought on picking up anything new. Why start investing all this money into comics from a company that may not even make it?

I am really curious why no further announcements have been made as to why the book isn't released yet.

it seems the predominant consensus is that, for the most part, you don't see this book on the stands. Most places are only taking direct orders from people who ask for them. Even then, if there is the odd shop that is ordering multiple copies to take up shelf space...I would be quite interested to know just how well advertised and just how visible these books are to most collectors.

For the pricetag, in this economic environment very few people are going to drop that kind of money on something without already having the suggestion in mind.

and only seven more posts until I get to join that illustrious 1K group and finally get my very own customized...oh...1K isn't alot at this board?

and I already have...ummm, never mind.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

I can't speak for everywhere, but here the X-O HC was seen on the shelves of my LCS and in pretty good view. The copies he had sold, and pretty quickly. But I understand that's not the norm.

My LCS told me he did well with them as well. He ordered a few extras because I ordered 3 for myself. He sold them pretty fast.

stopped at a newer CS about a half hour from my place yesterday and asked about the A&A HC...the owner told me that he ordered and sold multiple copies of the others and has a least 6 A&A ordered...he also made the comment..."that's gonna be a good seller"...

told him to add my name to his list for one...

I ordered 5 A&A from my local shop and because of that, he said he ordered a bunch. He said he had only planned on ordering 1 at the time

after having every indication that it would be ok to print the story, Random House and Classic Media turned us down.
I pulled this from the VCS site. This applies to the U2K project that they are doing.

Could this be the reason for the A&A delay?

I don't think so. My understanding with the Unity 2000 stuff is that they needed permission because those books had not been printed before. From what I understand VEI has full reprint rights to all the printed VALIANT/Acclaim books.

Yeah. But that didn't stop VIP from trying to f@ck things up for VEI.

Wouldn't they have done that sooner with the Solar appearances in X-O?
