machines ~ ha.
machines fear me.

I would blow my own trumpet if I had one.

Yes I am going to do it myself, after christmas.
Have two months to fully renovate a house and build a massive extention, which means it will take 3 months :D

Then start binding, Demon run frist. then so lesser runs. If it works, I will do valiant.
The only thing I cannot figure is lettering, so mine maybe blank but with stevetroppers cool dust jackets

I think hardcovers are the way to go. So coveniant for those who actually read the comics regulary.

Want to bind in golds, and some vvss.

But you never know, I Might be crap at it and not go ahead. But usually I am good at such things.

Library just matched what i used on the design.
Though check your PM if you like that Flex Book you should check out the one Larry Young (of AiT fame) had doen at Capital, best die stamp ever.

I emailed Jim and this is what he said.

"The closest Font we have is Tempo Bold, 24 point for the spine and 48 point for the front cover. This will be hand set type and it ups the cost by $10 for the hand set and $4.95 to stamp the front cover.

There is no longer any yellow buckram as this was one of the colors that was discontinued."

Just picked up a full Howard The Duck reader run, and I'm thinking of binding them and one of my Valiant sets too. Might try first with Hard Corps. :P Don't ask me why, probably just because it's one I have multiple copies of. ;)

How much would two bound books, one with a Valiant logo stamp, and no other frills cost do you think? And, is it best to do 2 or 3 at a time to save on shipping or is shipping pretty decent?

It is best to due 3 to 4 at a time is my understanding.

Basic book is $15.00 from LBC (for about 20 to 25 comics). You DEFINITELY want Head/Tail Bands at $4.00.

The cost to use the spine die is $4.95. The die is one inch so the thickness needs to be at least 1.5 inches for the comics.

The cost to use the Cover die is $4.95. The die is 5 inches wide.

Shipping is extra

If you are doing HC I would also get the Harby crossover issues. makes it a 32 issue book. I know Steve Topper did his in 2 16 book sets. Me I rip all the ads and backcovers off to save space and got it into one Omnibus edition. Havent sent it in but its prepped.

I have books with both the head/tail bands and without. they dont really add anything of value but they do look better.
All together Fanboy had it priced out right you figure
15X2=30.00
4.95*1=4.95 Spine Logo or Front Cover
4.95*2=9.90 for Both

The best bet to start is anywhere between 2-4 books.
I ship to Waco using the priority boxes with no weight restriction. So shipping is 8.95 more for tracking and all the rest.

Library will call you back in a couple of weeks with a total of what everything costs including shipping back to you.

So Im getting ready to send in a few more books..and Im working on my Ninjak books.. Im seriously thinking about sending it in as one large volume.

It is 1.5 inches as it sits.. thats not too much is it?

To get it that low I had to go through and take out all the back covers and editorial pages.. I then went through and took out all of the double sided advert pages. I think I got them all LOL

What do you guys think?

Since you removed all of the ads and got it down to 1.5 inches, it should be fine. The larger books I've done are with all ads and covers, etc. and makes for a hefty book. 1.5 inches is probably the best size -- lots of material without being cumbersome.

Separate topic. Cheers for the info. No bigger than 1.5 inch.
No rude comments. We are no talking about binding comics..
I do recall someone saying a minium size ~ what was it (or how many issues).

Yes.. I separately bound psi lords and geomancer.. I should have combined them. Save yourself some cash and make those into one book.. Maybe even a flip book LOL..

I think one of the binding masters, Neil or Steve, has a pic in this thread of their combined book.. It looks real good!

That would be steve.
As for binding, as my New X-Men by morrison run is one of my favorite runs of the book ever, i am going through Capital Bindery. As they already had a die created I want to use, it makes sense for me to pay their higher price as for this run I wanted Handlettering, Panel Bands, Head Tail Bands So in reality I am only paying about $15 more per book, plus there were some weird issues with the books being printed at different sizes and with Capital I can ensure that the books are trimmed to be the same size on my shelf and that the lettering will match up.

Though i have in my box ready to go once Ninjak, Unity, The Visitor.
I have also been hording Bloodshot #1 and am cutting off the chromium, that way once I get all three books done I can glue the chromium onto the front cover myself, I have been testing with the buckram and reading up on other forums on what glues work best. I think the results look really cool.

Couldn't the bindery add the chromium to the cover as well?

After nearly 4 months, my Valiant books were finally completed. They are being shipped out this morning and I should have them by Friday. They do have both the cover and spine stamp, so I will definitely post pics when they arrive!
