THE official Valiant bound volumes - Layton - SOLD!
Bob Layton sent me an email and a photo today...
I thought one of you might be interested.
----------------------
Hi,
I’ve been out in Hollywood for the last two months working on the
preliminaries to my upcoming film based on one of my Future Comics
properties.
Things have really taken off on the movie in the last month and the
situation has forced me to bounce back-and-forth between Los Angeles and
my home base of Tampa, Florida.
Fortunately, all is going extremely well and it looks like I'm going to
be moving out to LA, probably before the Christmas holiday.
Anyway, I'm getting rid of anything that isn't essential to my existence
before I relocate--which includes these bound Valiant volumes.
These are the official reference books that we kept in the office during
my tenure at the company. Massarsky gave them to me when I was leaving
the company as a parting gift.
Although I've enjoyed having them, they are pretty much excess baggage
in a move, considering that my days of working for Valiant are done.
Anyway, I have no idea how to go about selling them or which Valiant
fans to contact.
I'd want a minimum of $2,000.00 for the lot--since they _are_ a part of
Valiant history.
Let me know if you have any ideas on how I can unload these at a fair
price.
Best wishes,
Bob Layton

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Yep, and way overpriced.mjm00014 wrote:Interesting, and I forget some of the other board members that have bound their own . . . but I like the board members' creations much better.
I know, it's a piece of history . . . but that Rai numbering would drive me through the roof. I like my collection nice and organized.

Steve Topper has AMAZING bound books. If Bob Layton's are worth $2,000 then Steve's Valiant and Acclaim books should be $10k+.mjm00014 wrote:Interesting, and I forget some of the other board members that have bound their own . . . but I like the board members' creations much better.

That's how I see it as well...whovianone wrote:I personally think it's worth it given the provinance and pedigree, but it's WAY outta my range.
It's not that these are "bound volumes"... it's that they are "THE bound volumes".
Any of us could have our books bound... for $20 or $40 or however much we wanted to spend,
but we wouldn't have THE copies that sat as the official Valiant reference set.
$2,000 by 16 books is $125 each.
That's barely more expensive than having your own copies bound... all things considered.
It's the set price that's overwhelming.
Individually, I think it's probably a "Valiant history bargain".
