The Secret Six
Anyone else enjoying this awesome series so far. Catman is so awesome.
I like it when rarely used and obscure characters have there own series.

Both BoosterGold & The Secret Six are probably the 2 best books comming outta the DC Camp in the Last few yrs. They Rule.
The Chemistry between DeadShot & Catman really makes the Book Great imo.
& BoosterGold is One of the Best Hero's ever... the 1st 12 Issues are fantastic. I haven't picked up #13 yet..

I've just been reading some other guys raving about this on another board.
Sounds interesting, but as very much a Marvel and independents guy I have a couple of questions (if you dom't mind answering).
Do I need to know much about the DCU to know what's going on?
Is this a good book to start reading Gail Simone?

In order to get the most out of the DCU at the moment I would suggest a small bit of reading up.
To start you need to get Crisis on Infinite Earths. This introduces you to some of the major players and gives you a bit of background on how the DCU got how it is.
Then read Identity Crisis followed by Rann-Thanagar War, Villains United (this is how the Secret Six formed), Day of Vengeance and The OMAC Project.
These all lead into Infinite Crisis which is the last mandatory DC book on the pile. There is also a Prelude to Infinite Crisis book available that collects all the odd bits from just before IC and will answer a few questions.
This is the main spine of the current DCU. You can expand on this by reading 52 and Countdown. 52 is really good and Countdown is OK but not great.
For some really good reading material you need to pick up Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps. War, Booster Gold (I would recommend you read the Showcase edition of Booster Gold and 52 before this one but it isn't totally necessary, it will just give you a bit more of an insight into the character) and Justice Society of America (I would recommend Kingdom Come before this one though).
This pretty much covers the DCU for the past ten years in terms of good reading as well as a few odds and ends.
If you intend to pick up Secret Six it may also be an idea to pick up the collected edition for the SS series between the Villains United mini and the current series.
This may seem a bit daunting but the DCU has a pretty rich history and although I do know quite a lot about it, there is still a lot out there.
Or you could just jump straight in at the deep end and we can try and fill you in if you need some help.
For Gail Simone stuff I would recommend her work on Deadpool and Agent X for Marvel, her Birds of Prey stuff for DC and her own series Welcome to Tranquility published by Wildstorm to get you used to her stuff. The Birds of Prey stuff crossed over with the Secret Six so that may be the way to go as it would give you an intro to both the characters in the Secret Six and her writing.

Cheers drift, that sounds pretty comprehensive, I've just read Infinite Crisis and a little Green Lantern from around that era, so I'm getting the feel.Drift wrote:In order to get the most out of the DCU at the moment I would suggest a small bit of reading up.

I might just dive in with Secret Six and see how I go.

I MOSTLY agree with teh above, but I wouldn't wish starting with Crisis on Infinite Earths on anybody. That is a thick tome, and I think it is better left for when you have a general appreciation for the DCU.Zool wrote:Cheers drift, that sounds pretty comprehensive, I've just read Infinite Crisis and a little Green Lantern from around that era, so I'm getting the feel.Drift wrote:In order to get the most out of the DCU at the moment I would suggest a small bit of reading up.

Other than that, Drift is spot on. Except for Countdown. That was really bad. Surprising, because 52 was really good.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
