Well, in their defense, they never really said it will definitely come out this week or last. The initial boo boo may be blamable on VEI, if you want to go there, but not the shipping... I am curious what's making it take so long to get shipped out. My LCS was saying that Diamond was moving to a new warehouse and that might be causing some of the delay.caxiotis wrote:I am going to start calling VEI a c**k tease. dino wrote:Guys, here is the update. The book is done. The manufacturer printed a few pages incorrectly (the registration on these pages was off causing the pages to print slightly blurred). We had the manufacturer correct this, so there was a slight delay from their end. The book is now corrected, in hand, and looking great. There was a good chance it would make it out to stores today but the manufacturer narrowly missed this week's shipment deadline. They will be in stores shortly. Can't wait for you guys to see the new story and Jim's interview!

But what does that say, really? "They will be in stores shortly". Not "next week" or "the week after"... I'm just saying holding VEI responsible for a delay in shipping that they have no control over isn't very sensible. Maybe I'm ignorant on how these things work, but isn't the date they ship primarily in the hands of Diamond now? Don't get me wrong, I think an update from Dino would be nice, but I don't know if it's even possible.
It was the responsibility of VEI to ensure that the book meet the original solicited shipping date (which was determined months prior to). Also, the majority of what is contained in the HC is reprint material. I'm of the opinion that if a publisher doesn't have enough oversight to effectively get a collection of reprint material to market on time then something is wrong. It makes me wonder why VEI doesn't have fail-safes in place to accommodate for things like printing errors. It's also seems very shortsighted to issue a press release stating the new release date would be Oct. 8 and then miss that shipping date as well.etos45 wrote:jedimarley wrote:etos45 wrote:Well, in their defense, they never really said it will definitely come out this week or last. The delay is strange, that's for sure, but I don't blame VEI for something that is out of their hands. They made sure the book was ready and now it seems the distributor is dropping the ball.
I'm sure VEI would love for the book to be in our hands right now instead of listening to us talk about the shipping delays.

exactly. It's not like they are wanting these delays either. But it's happening for whatever reason and we should give them the benefit of the doubt since they are a relatively new company on the publishing scene.Daniel Jackson wrote:The delay is strange, that's for sure, but I don't blame VEI for something that is out of their hands. I don't believe VEI issued any press release saying when the new release date was going to be. A website not affiliated with VEI said the 8th. Did I miss something? Last word I saw was from Dino saying "shortly" as seen in Jedi's quote.j schmo wrote:It was the responsibility of VEI to ensure that the book meet the original solicited shipping date (which was determined months prior to). As for VEI having a failsafe plan, I 100% agree with you on that point. It has now been 2 out of 3 HCs that have missed their original release date, and while I don't really fault VEI with them (especially the first one) it may have been preventable if they allowed a slightly larger pocket of time for the release (especially the 3rd one).
That being said, though, I look at these HCs as a learning experience for VEI. They aren't on the pressures of HAVING to get the book to market on time because it's a monthly title (that even bigger companies like Marvel aren't doing too well at right now). I would much rather they have delays now, than after launch when they had some huge cliffhanger the issue before.

Since I ordered that one from my LCS, I had to wait forever for that one.etos45 wrote:The first one was early if you got it from Amazon... it was waaay late if you waited for Diamond to send it.J-Scott-R wrote:So was the first, I got it two weeks before the listed ship date from Amazon.com.t_inkster wrote:The second book was actually early though

Definitely. Which is why it shipped okay with Amazon who got it directly from VEI (right?). I wasn't trying to put any kind of blame on VEI for that lateness... just trying to say that if they had the shipping dates further back then what they did it may have prevented the missed deadlines... I don't know if that would have worked for the Diamond/VIP mess, but it probably would have fixed the problem with the A&A HC.J-Scott-R wrote:Wasn't that due the crap with Diamond and vip and not anything to do with VEI?Daniel Jackson wrote:Since I ordered that one from my LCS, I had to wait forever for that one.etos45 wrote:The first one was early if you got it from Amazon... it was waaay late if you waited for Diamond to send it.J-Scott-R wrote:So was the first, I got it two weeks before the listed ship date from Amazon.com.t_inkster wrote:The second book was actually early though
