A Story of Obsession: My Valiant Story
I have 3 vices...
1st there is chocolate... Nuff Said !!
2nd there are orchids. I began growing orchids in 1983. Currently I have about 150 species of S. E. Asian origin. I have described 5 new orchid species from the S. E. Asian group which with I work. Knock on wood I will be attending graduate school where I will work on my masters and doctorate in plant systematics.
3rd there are comic books. I was a relative newcomer to comics, having started while in college. Several of my fraternity (ZBT) brothers collected comics and I picked up the habit. Mostly my brothers collected X-books and so did I for a while. After realizing that a dead character can be resurrected over and over I shied away from the main publishers.
I picked up Valiant comics in the middle of the Unity crossover event. My first Valiant purchase was Magnus 15, but within the week I have purchased all the Unity books that had been published up to that time. After another week I had tracked down all the earlier Valiant issues.
I avidly collected everything Valiant. I had acquired a large collection of Valiant Gold covers, Valiant card sets, and Valiant promotional Posters. I obsessively collected Valiant titles up till 1994, when I picked up a few of The Chaos Effect crossovers. While I still enjoyed the amazing characters and story lines, I simply was too broke to maintain the hobby. I had a complete run up till 1994.
After several years I returned to a comic book shop to find that Valiant comics had gone bankrupt. I did not have the heart to collect the remaining issues that I did not already possess, and my collection ended up in storage in the garage.
In 2004 hurricane Ivan made it's way through western Pennsylvania. The water was high enough to touch the bottoms of the boxes of my precious Valiant collection. I sorted through them and put them on a higher shelf.
After learning about the Harbinger movie, I became re-obsessed with everything Valiant. I began searching for the issues I was missing. Today, I have a very large collection, at least 3 copies of each book, and a large collection of other Valiant collectibles. I have some holes in my collection and avidly trade from my collection to obtain these missing jewels.

Orchids
I was always interested in botany. I was taken to an orchid show when I was 13 and fell in love. Now I grow plants for my research, which hopefully will end with a masters and/or doctorate.
Most of the orchids I grow are not the ones your grandmother would wear as a corsage.
I know this is a comic book forum, but I've attached a few photographs below. Also I have a flickr.com account under thanos15084.
