Top 15 UNWANTED Valiant Comics
While there's no way ValiantComics.com will ever be considered "fair and balanced",
since we tend to value Valiant comics more than anyone else...
it is still important to point out those Valiant comics which are
NOT as desirable in the collector market, even 10+ years later.
These books should be recognized for what they are NOT...
So that no one is confused when they hear that "some Valiants" are hot again.
These are the most NOT HOT Valiant Comics around...
and we're not ashamed to say that we still DON'T want them.

Deathmate was cool.
Magnus 25 had a great moment in Magnus history when he shouted "I'm human!!"
Secret Weapons #1 is classic, a very fair and cool semi-sequel to Unity.
The ending alone is perfect.
Dr. Mirage #1 was awesome.
Solar 23-25 were great stories.
You have to redo this list

dr mirage was never awesome.
psi-lords was a joke
and those solar issues? "i've got a great idea, let's have phil number 4 split into solar number 3 and then we'll have a few more splits and then, maybe we could do deathmate II and then do it all in valiant vision, so we can make people sick, literally AND physically!!!!"
"that's a great idea bob. thank you steve."

Dr. Mirage had some of the best comic book art I've ever seen and what I liked about it was that it was as anti-comic book as you can get.
It was a comic about two people, that was it.
Fighting evil was third or fourth place in that comic.
They were the Lois & Clark of the VALIANT Universe and that's what I liked about them

And VALIANT Vision ruled!! lol
If the trademark on it has expired and I ever get the chance, I hope to buy it someday to use it, lol.

The point of the list is to help "Valiant novices" understand
that they are NOT sitting on a "gold mine" when they own a few of them,
or decide to offer those particular issues for sale.
Everyone already has them...
Everyone already has PLENTY of them...
If someone doesn't have one, just ask... they're almost free.
If Overstreet and Wizard are going to be mentioning Valiant again,
we need to be very clear about which Valiant books are worth mentioning,
which books represent the very best that Valiant had to offer...
and which books are unfortunately still "hard to sell" at even cover price.
Some of the ones on the unwanted list are great reads...
but you shouldn't pay much more than $1 to get those books...
and they should be the last Valiant books that increase in any price guide.
It's nobody's fault that there are almost a million of some of those books,
but someone would be at fault if the words "rare", "hot" or "tough to find"
were ever mentioned in combination with these books.

Zepyer you are right on the money putting blame were it should be
Steve and Bob ruined a company that had a great chance of still publishing today if the had not "let Shooter go his own way". The appeal I think was the strong continuity of the titles(with great stories of course) but they sold out for the quick buck.
A slow steady climb is better than a fast rise to the top and a steep decline to the bottom.

It is tough to find, no - RARE to find someone who needs a Turok #1 to complete their Valiant collection. A lot of speculators are now hot under the collar because they cannot sell these for 1 cent (plus $3 shipping!) on eBay.

I can't argue with this quote... but they only printed what they could sell, comicguy wrote:A slow steady climb is better than a fast rise to the top and a steep decline to the bottom.
and since they sold all those books... can you really blame them?
One month you're selling 50,000 books...
a few months later, the orders come in for 500,000...
do you tell them 'no'?
Turok #1 sold 1,750,000 copies...
and it was only the SIXTH best selling comic book overall in 1993.
TOP COMIC PRODUCTS FOR 1993
1 Adventures of Superman #500 (direct edition)
2 Action #687 (direct edition)
3 Adventures of Superman #501 (direct edition)
4 Superman #78 (direct edition)
5 Superman: Man of Steel #22 (direct edition)
6 Turok Dinosaur Hunter #1
7 Batman #500 (direct edition)
8 Deathblow #1
9 Maxx #1
10 Darker Image #1
There's not a single book on this list that deserves to sell for more than cover price...
but there's no way to blame the print runs for all those books on Valiant.

Well, from what we know about Valiant...myron wrote:greg...do you happen to have the print runs on that top 10 handy? Inquiring mind would like to know...
The books at #2 through #5 would be around 2,000,000 copies...
since they are more than Turok #1 at 1,750,000.
I think I remember Adventures of Superman #500 being touted
as a 5,000,000 copy book, but that seems like a huge number.
Deathmate Prologue (with about 1,000,000 copies) is lower on the list,
so the books just below Turok #1 would have to be between
1,000,000 and 1,750,000... most likely in the area of 1,500,000 copies.

I thought the first storyline in PSI lords was not bad, I liked premise and potential of how the title began. After that it went down hill and barely had a chance to really suck because it only lasted a few more issues.uruchuu wrote:I actually thought the premise of Psi-Lords was cool. It was basically trying to continue on H.A.R.D. Corps even thought that title never really caught on itself.

aside from the high print runs, do any of you agree that there were simply too many titles being churned out each month?? when chaos effect came out-i bought eight books. i remember thinking, "there is no way i'm gonna buy all these"-so i debated over which runs of four to get...of course, i have all of them now, but i was not about to pay cover price for all those when they came out. it was only 3 or 4 months later that i was buying those very issues that i had passed on in 3 for a dollar bags at a shop in san angelo texas...which is why i ended up checking out defiant-they were in the same bags...that was when i began to "piece it all together" i remember thinking that the defiant titles reminded me of the good stuff in valiant, and the valiant issues that i had bought the bags for-were not like valiant!!

Hey Greg, considering I have 2 capital cases of the white polybagged edition of this issue and I sold 5 cases previously plus the number of copies of each variant of that issue ie deluxe edition newstand etc. That number is unfortunately about right.greg wrote: I think I remember Adventures of Superman #500 being touted

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that it is the highest printed comic of the past 30 years.jasons-auctions wrote:Hey Greg, considering I have 2 capital cases of the white polybagged edition of this issue and I sold 5 cases previously plus the number of copies of each variant of that issue ie deluxe edition newstand etc. That number is unfortunately about right.greg wrote: I think I remember Adventures of Superman #500 being touted

Hmmm I thought that title went to all the copies of X-Men #1. I mean so what if they are different covers its the same story..x-omatic wrote:I am pretty sure I read somewhere that it is the highest printed comic of the past 30 years.jasons-auctions wrote:Hey Greg, considering I have 2 capital cases of the white polybagged edition of this issue and I sold 5 cases previously plus the number of copies of each variant of that issue ie deluxe edition newstand etc. That number is unfortunately about right.greg wrote: I think I remember Adventures of Superman #500 being touted
