That card was awesome when it came out. I wonder who on the Orioles thought Billy was a *SQUEE* face? Maybe they disliked him because they thought he only had a job through nepotism. Considering his brother is HOF Cal and his dad was the manager in 1988 (the year before the card came out), they could have been right!dave wrote:how much is a billy ripken expletive card worth these days?

Yeah... and yeah, eBay might be different. I'll look that up, what was the issue number?X-O HoboJoe wrote:Rhymes with "Hike?"slym2none wrote:The one where Sabretooth uses an anti-Semitic pejorative term? I did just slightly better:nutflush76 wrote:I totally agree. But I still had to get a Quitely Variant.daydreamscomics wrote:as a retailer, i find this whole situation completely unacceptable.
the stores that did get them were able to make literally thousands of free dollars for doing nothing but putting up listings.
stores like myself 1) didn't get them in the first place, thus we lose sales and 2) we aren't getting the new copies for free
i think diamond and dc should penalize retailers who did resell these books. it's not fair to the rest of the dealers who didn't get these books. it's like sending specific stores boxes of variants and leaving the rest of us out...![]()
BTW my patience paid off.
Quitely Variant
I bid $50 on one of his auctions and didn't win it. He sent me a second chance offer.
He's got more in his store maybe he is willing to part with them for $50![]()
It may be worth a shot if you want to get the book but not pay a ton of money for it.

I set my price at $40 including shipping, and bid on several of them today. This is the first one I was able to win.

As much as I understand the principal, if DC really wants control over this sort of thing, they should make the dealers return them. Then, they can fine the dealer for every copy NOT returned, thereby making it not worth the hassle.daydreamscomics wrote:i talked to our DC Comics rep today about this whole situation. it looks like DC may be taking action against all the retailers who did not destroy the books like they were supposed to and sold them on ebay.

DC is just trying to make themselves look better in kind of a Not looked at good situation .
.. I mean come on,.. In this Day and age Of make Comics,.. you mean to tell me that someone Edits the Books with **** After they hit the Presses ?
This Whole Situation is thier Problem, & they are Idiots if they truley thought that Comicbook Shops were going to destroy this Book & Not sell it. Agreed that they Should Have had them send the Book Back,.. or Perhaps Contacted Diamond & got them to not deliver the Books. But Ultimately they Should Fire Miller for writing that God Aweful Story Story Anyways. Even with Jim Lee's art It's Bairly even Readable imo. And Seriously,.. Why even put the C Word in a Book,.. Let alone Stared Out to where the character is "Adlegidly" Saying that. Don't get me Wrong,.. I am in no way some sorta Prude Activist or Anything,.. & have my Own Foul Mouth that perhaps needs a Bit of Restraint Every Now & then,.. But Come on... I just don't see the Point.
... But Because I do like Jim Lee,.. & I do Have the 1st 9issues.... I will get the Book soon.

The Lee art has been amazing though. So it sort of makes it somewhat worth my money.
Is their even a plot or is his book just a vehicle to get Jim Lee to draw as many different Bat characters as he can.
Oh and trapping Green Lantern in a room painted yellow.
WTF?

What would they do?daydreamscomics wrote:i talked to our DC Comics rep today about this whole situation. it looks like DC may be taking action against all the retailers who did not destroy the books like they were supposed to and sold them on ebay.
that could get VERY interesting
Not let them sell DC books anymore? Then who would sell DC? Because you can bet AT LEAST 90% of the retailers didn't destroy those.
How would they prove that they didn't destroy the books anyway?
I think that's all just talk from the DC rep because he knowst he honest dealers are *SQUEE*!

we shall see what happens. theoretically they could demand that all copies sent out be returned and give dealers a refund for those, and give a penalty for every copy that isn't returned that the dealer was invoiced for.
just my thoughts...

I just can't see DC wanting to create that much ill will with their dealers. Whether or not the dealers were in the right or wrong.daydreamscomics wrote:i was told it will be addressed at the baltimore con...nutflush76 wrote:What would they do?daydreamscomics wrote:i talked to our DC Comics rep today about this whole situation. it looks like DC may be taking action against all the retailers who did not destroy the books like they were supposed to and sold them on ebay.

If you hear anything post it here. I really can't wait to hear what DC has to say about this.

It would be intersting to see how exactly DC would go about taking action against Retaliers who did not return them.
Surely once a product has been sold it no longer belongers to DC and the retailer can do as they please.
Of course i always have and always will tell anyone who will listen to leave this crap alone. Its not good for the industry and too many people are left out of pocket and so i do not wish to be one of the many retailers who only sees a quick buck and cares very little for their customers long term investment for an overpriced book you just sold them.
These instances are very similar to variant incentive sketch covers.
Full of BS hype that when it dies down, the prices go with it and there is not one single positive to be had.
Personally i always look for another angle when this stuff happens and methinks DC may well have created a littel hype here to sell a title that quite simply just is not that good.
Who knows, stranger things have happened.
