My Valiant story... 16 years late

Post by Bad Lt. »

Born in '73 I collected comics through the entire 80's. Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Claremont. I stopped very early 90's when the Image craze was starting, I love Jim Lee and Silvestri but the writing was really weak. The foil covers sucked and Rob Liefeld was way over paid.

In 2006 a friend let me read his entire run of Garth Ennis's Preacher. This brought me back to comics. I read a lot of new stuff but started reading old stuff for nostalgia. I read Barry Windsor Smiths Weapon X which I remmember being my favorite Wolverine story.

I got into the old New Universe stuff too. Valiant fans will love Jim Shooters work on Star Brand and D.P.7. (very similar to Harbinger).

Anyway, thanks to the internet I found out about Shooter and Windsor together on Solar man of the atom. I picked up Alpha and Omega for 4 bucks still in the bag. I also got Harbinger and Rai trades cheap.

Big Petes in West Vancouver has about 20 boxes of old Valiants for a buck a piece, I am reading the Unity series now and this is the best stuff I almost missed out on! Harbinger #8 rules!

The 90’s was a dismal time in comics but Valiant (especially pre-Unity and Unity) is one of the few shining stars. Glad you’ve discovered what were probably the best comics produced since the Marvel Silver Age as well as this forum—welcome.
