Opinion on Shipping please
I want you opinions please on an ebay matter. I won an auction for 159 Valiant comics for 1.99 plus 4.95 Shipping. After a week I get an e-mail from the seller (after he has recevied my money order) that he is refunding me my money due to an error in the listing of the shipping. Yes, I know that 4.95 is on the really cheap side,
but should the seller still honor the terms of sale or should I just take the refund and go away quietly and chalk it up to lesson learned?
and not bother to but from him again.
I have made shipping amount mistakes in the past and simply ate the cost and moved on
but it irks me when he says that he will not make me pay the differance in shipping and just simply relist the items with the correct shipping charge.
What is your opinion or have you had a similar problem how did you handel it?

Hmmm, in this case, I think it would be extremely hard for the seller to eat all the shipping costs. He screwed up big time, because there's no way 150+ comics are going to be shipped anywhere for $4.95. That's basically a 1/2 box full of books. Even media mail for a box of books that big is going to be at least $10, and with the Post Office's crackdown on media mail abuse, he might not be able to get away with shipping them media. The last time I had someone ship me a 1/2 box worth of comics, it cost them around $16 for priority. He ended up losing a bit on shipping since I paid him $14. With the low price you paid for these books, he's going to lose a good chunk of money on this, even if you picked up part of the shipping difference. If you are willing to pay the exact shipping amount though, then I can't see why he wouldn't be willing to sell them.
Just trying to possibly give you what might be his side of this...

No he did not offer me to pay the extra shipping, he just said I wont make you pay it.
Now that I have calmed down a bit, I guess it is not that big of a deal that he is refunding me the money but I still would have liked the books though.
I guess I just needed to vent, just opened a box of comics from another ebay purchase were advertised in NM(well they could of been before thry left) but the seller just stuck them in a priorty box with no packing no bags or boards either so guess what I got
It just has not been a good day for comics

You know something Comicguy, this really bothers me when things like this happen. I am a businessman and own my own business like many others who use this site, and when I make a mistake like this, and it happens occasionally, I just pay up and do the right thing. A few times I have screwed up on Ebay or overpacked an item and it cost more than I charged for shipping, but I just felt it was the right thing to do, and my feedback, I feel, represents that. I just for the first time ever had someone who didn't agree with my grade for a SA comic (VG) or just didn't like the book for some reason, I refunded his money and his return shipping. Some sellers may feel this is excessive, but that extra $3.80 got me another positive feedback out of a customer who could have been unhappy. FWIW, this is a hobby and I am just trying to have some fun with the comics that I love, reading, buying, selling and trading. So, yeah, I think the guy should have sent the books, and you should make sure that he is aware of this, although I would be careful about leaving negative feedback because he could retaliate. Just my two cents.

I guess in some cases I can see where speculatorboy may be right, but I think if this auction had sold for considerably more money the seller would have sent you the books. I think you got a pretty legitimate gripe, you took the time to get a money order and mail it, doesn't seem like much, but it is if it's part of my busy workday, anyway, live and learn I guess.

I do not know why you would not leave at least a neutral. feedback. You won an item & you paid for an item. You kept your end of the agreement. The seller didn't hold up his end of the deal or at least offer you to pay the correct shipping charges. It seems to me that he is simply trying to get more for the books. Personally I would leave a negative. You are not responsible for a sellers mistake.comicguy wrote:It was not a matter of paying the extra shipping he simply stated he would relist it with the correct shipping and refund my money.
I wont be leaving any feedback on the transaction because I did not complete the process with the seller.
Is he going to refund your .37 stamp? what about the MO fee? Why should you be out any money for his mistake.

I agree with x-o and knight...you won the auction fair and square...he should hold up his end of the agreement
I wonder also if there isn't something else...like maybe he doesn't have them or he went through them and found some decent stuff that he didn't realize he had in there.
