VEI - what is their ultimate goal?

I think VEI is being very smart, given the way the market currently is. So far, everything they have said, has happened and the two HC's have been HIGH END products, with the A&A looking to blow away the others, in terms of extras, by many miles. Also, remember, VALIANT was founded in 1989, but it took them roughly 2 years before Magnus was released, so, I'm not too worried about VEI. If it takes them until mid 2009 or a little later to get monthlies, so what?
I'd rather have them take the time they need, get it right, make it work and last, then rush things. Shooter, back in 89, knew that slow and steady won the race. Yes, they got sidetracked with Nintendo & WWF, but that's beside the point. On target, it's when everyone rushed to cash in the chips that things fell apart. I applaud Dino, Walt and the rest of VEI for sticking to what they have said.
What month was Magnus #1 published / released in?
I was just wondering if VEI was on target to release in approximately the same months that VH1 did...

Although the title/character release order will be different due to the GK/DH licensing issue. Still, I wonder if an approximate order similar to the original order will be published?

Watchmen was optioned in the late 80's, as an example, and spent a few decades in "production."k_c_collectibles wrote:I do not have a problem with VEI making money. In face I WANT them to make money. However, it takes YEARS to get movie deals done and have the movies made.
YEARS!
What happens if the Harbinger movie gets done and it is a bomb?![]()
Does that mean that VEI would be dead in the water?![]()
Some of the recent Marvel and DC movies have been GREAT and others not so good... My question is would one bad movie totally taint the franchise if and when it gets made?
Remember - Paramount only has the rights to make Harbinger into a movie. I believe those rights are from year to year and only make it so other companies can't make a Harbinger movie of their own. There is NO certainty that a Harbinger movie will actually be made. I hate do be a wet blanket, but those are the facts...
I just want good Valiant comics to be made. Monthly comics with good art and great stories - just like the old days (I feel like I am 50 years old saying that).
I say again - I wish VEI all the success in the world - I just want some monthly books!!!![]()

That's what I would do. Not just because I'm biased, but because it's the type of character they can market and build around with ease.Daniel Jackson wrote:My guess would be X-O.yardstick wrote:Daniel Jackson wrote:I doubt it.yardstick wrote:xodacia81 wrote:It has a cover date of May, so it was probably released around Feb' of 91. I would expect XO, Bloodshot or Rai, followed by Harbinger, Eternal Warrior, Archer & Armstrong and/or HARD Corps...xodacia81 wrote:That's what I would do. That should round out the primary titles, don't you think?
Incidentally, that list is very similar to the original release order....
Hmmmm Bloodshot/Rai flip book.... hmmmmm

I think the idea of the flip book might work and I could certainly see something along those lines, but I'm still not sure I'd launch a HC title anytime right after the other books. I'd try to build some aniticipation first.yardstick wrote:I would expect XO, Bloodshot or Rai, followed by Harbinger, Eternal Warrior, Archer & Armstrong and/or HARD Corps...xodacia81 wrote:That's what I would do. To capitalize on the movie hype, I would say Harbinger might be the second title.yardstick wrote:I would expect XO, Bloodshot or Rai, followed by Harbinger, Eternal Warrior, Archer & Armstrong and/or HARD Corps...xodacia81 wrote:That's what I would do. It had occurred to me that since the VH1 universe started with a Magnus/Rai flipbook, why not start on the other end of the timeline with a Bloodshot/Rai flipbook...xodacia81 wrote:I think the idea of the flip book might work and I could certainly see something along those lines, but I'm still not sure I'd launch a HC title anytime right after the other books. Thats a good call. I figure the first title would be whoever is taking the role that Solar did in the original Valiant U.Daniel Jackson wrote:To capitalize on the movie hype, I would say Harbinger might be the second title.yardstick wrote:I would expect XO, Bloodshot or Rai, followed by Harbinger, Eternal Warrior, Archer & Armstrong and/or HARD Corps...xodacia81 wrote:That's what I would do. So then, you might suggest:
Bloodshot/Rai (flipbook)
Harbinger
XO
Eternal Warrior
Archer & Armstrong
HARD Corps
Any particular reason VEI couldn't make Harbinger/HARD Corps and Eternal Warrior/Archer & Armstrong flipbooks? If so, then maybe it would look like:
Bloodshot/Rai (flipbook)
Harbinger/HARD Corps (flipbook)
XO
Eternal Warrior/Archer & Armstrong (flipbook)
Cover price? $3.99?

There are so many characters you can get into Harby.
Then X-O, Bloodshot, then the Eternal book. That should be good for about a year.
Unless of course they are going to do future books without Magnus, then maybe Rai.

It seems that every superhero universe has a cornerstone, and that would be the title to lead things off with. Magnus and Solar did that the first time around until their worlds were woven together through future stories.
Just a few posts ago, i figured that whoever fills the role that Solar did would make for an ideal first title.
But perhaps that figure will remain in a god-like state that would be difficult to base an ongoing series upon. So Sting and the Harbingers could take that role instead with a Harbinger-centric VEI.
With that in mind - who ideally should the VEI 'universe' be built around?

Harbinger was NAMED after Harada's compnay and "role", but it was never really focused on any one character, except maybe Pete or, later, Zeph. SO, yeah...it could work.Elveen wrote:Geomancer wrote:Elveen wrote:I think that Harby will be first.

The odds of the Goat and Q&W being a high priority for VEI to exploit are really slim, specially considering that they have much better properties like XO and Harbinger that they can get more mileage from.xodacia81 wrote:A series dedicated to MOTA...The Adventures of The Goat.
I can just imagine the decision making.
Pretend you're a fly on the wall of Dino's office during a meeting with Jason.
Dino: "Finally, we got a meeting with (name of big Hollywood studio here)! What should we take to pitch to them? X-O Manowar? Harbinger? Dr. Mirage?"
Jason: "Hmmm... nah, let's take the Goat, I have a feeling that it'll be really popular. He got his own one shot and inaction figure once, remember? Not even Turok got that, and he sold millions of dollars in video games."
I don't quite see either Jason or Dino hitching their wagon to Vincent's cape the same way that Nicieza did, not when they own much more lucrative properties that they can exploit in much more profitable ways.
