How Valiant got me....
so, my route to the Valiant Universe was pretty typical, i think. I was a youth in the 80's. I grew up a Marvel kid. my favorite titles were Power Man/Iron Fist, the original Moon Knight series, The Invaders, and Peter Parker SSM. One by one, most of my titles got cancelled, and nothing that marvel was putting out kept my interest. I drifted away from comics for a number of years. John Byrne's Namor series brought me back, but little else i was seeing on the rack was up to the quality of that series. I struck up a conversation with my LCS owner (25th Century Five and Dime, Bloomington, IN) and I mentioned my fondness for 70s and 80s era Marvel. He told me to check out Jim Shooter's new project, Valiant. My collection was 99 pecent Marvel at that point, so i was a little hesistant. But I picked up a copy of Magnus Robot Fighter and was hooked immediately. This was just before the Unity crossover. At first I was just reading Magnus, but eventually Archer and Armstrong, Shadowman, and Eternal Warrior also became favorites. I read those books until I started to see a decrease in their quality. Chaos Effect was the deathblow for me. after a couple years of lame gimmick covers, limp crossovers with Image, and watering down of the original Valiant premise, I had had enough. A&A, the last good book, being cancelled made it official. I was out.
In 2001 I moved to Chicago, right up the street from a decent comic shop (Graham Crackers Comics) and started getting into the titles i had missed out on initially--Solar, X-O, Harbinger. I have even gotten into a few latter day series--Dr. Mirage, Timewalker, early Secret Weapons. The new HC's have stepped up my interest again, and i have my fingers crossed that we will see more quality material in the near future. In the meantime, I will try to get into the titles that i still haven't checked out--Hard Corps, Armorines, Psi Lords, Geomancer, Turok, Ninjak and Bloodshot. My LCS has a great 50 cent bin, so I should be busy!

Welcome.
50 cent bins are pretty much non existent in my area. Stock up while you can.
