I will, assuming there are no dramatic "reimaginations" of the characters. I was a Magnus fan before he was published by Valiant, and Doctor Spektor could be cool.hulk181man wrote:The question then is....would we buy them ?
Of course, I would rather see Magnus and Solar published by Valiant, but I'd rather see them published by Dark Horse than not published at all (I hope they don't make me regret saying that).

It isn't too much of a surprise since Dark Horse has been republishing the old Magnus and Solar stories for a while now.
I'm actually interested to see what they do with them since Dark Horse does put out quite a bit of quality stuff.
They didn't specifically mention Turok, but they did say that they would be using other Gold Key characters.
What is more troubling to me is that there were no VEI announcements at SDCC this year.

Thats why I'm at least glad that somebody is going to start publishing Solar and Magnus in the near future.

A big part of why I like Magnus and Solar is the way the characters were written/ revamped by Shooter. I wasn't that interested in the GK versions, to tell you the truth. They were alright, but nothing outstanding. It was when they were introduced into the Valiant Universe that really caught my attention. It was a perfect fit and now there will be a huge void in the new VU.

Also Dark Horse didn't reprint the Turok Son of Stone comics but they have reprinted all the GK Solar and Magnus. I wonder why . . . kids love dinosaurs and Indians in the 60s and 70's, loved the Dinobots in the 80's, loved dinosaurs in the 90's with Jurassic Park, . . . Seems like Turok would have the most upside.Fanboy375 wrote:I think the only way I would buy these boos is if Shooter were writing them.
Doctor Solar is not the Solar we know and Love!!!
BTW, anyone else find it funny that Turok wasn't mentioned?

DK is coming out with a Turok comic version of the DVD that came out earlier this year. It would be my guess that they will be announcing new stories with him sometime soon as well.iggy101us wrote:Also Dark Horse didn't reprint the Turok Son of Stone comics but they have reprinted all the GK Solar and Magnus. I’ll check the new books out—at least we will have some sort of newly published Valiant comic before the year’s end. I do wish VEI the best but I’m tired of waiting.Geomancer wrote:I was also hoping that VEI would have some announcements.

Doctor Solar will have a green face. That's horrible!adammikael wrote:WHat do you all mean with your "that sucks" and "that's horrible"?!?!?! This is wonderful news! Some of our favorite characters are back! It may be difficult to get the DH/GK characters together with the Valiant characters in a cross-over, but it can happen.

One of the things I like about these characters is how they interact with the Valiant Universe as a whole. They won't be doing that, so this isn't the best of news.
I'll reserve judgement until the new stories come out though.
At the risk of being branded a heretic, I'm honestly tired of waiting for an announcement on ongoing series from VEI too.sanman wrote:I’ll check the new books out—at least we will have some sort of newly published Valiant comic before the year’s end. And I’d don’t want a rushed line of comics, mind you, but it would be nice to at least know thier plans even if it is another year out. I’m starting to feel like a fool talking up Valiant at the LCS and hearing only crickets in the background.Geomancer wrote:At the risk of being branded a heretic, I'm honestly tired of waiting for an announcement on ongoing series from VEI too.

How ya doing?

I absolutely agree.sanman wrote:And I’d don’t want a rushed line of comics, mind you, but it would be nice to at least know thier plans even if it is another year out. I would have been happy with an announcement from VEI that yes, they plan on launching ongoing new series within a specific timeframe. And announced the hiring of an editor-in-chief/creative director. That this huge San Diego convention would come and go with no announcements from VEI, is disappointing.
At least one question has been answered. Even if it was answered by Dark Horse. And that is if the Dell/Gold Key characters would be brought into the fold.
Hopefully, in the very near future - other key questions can be answered by VEI so we can move beyond speculation on them.
Tired of waiting, doesn't mean I've completely run out of patience.

The question of "what if" VEI couldn't get a hold of all or any of the Dell/Gold Key characters has come up.manjirin wrote:Maybe they can do a Captain Marvel/SHAZAM! on Solar, Magnus and Turok. Who owns Valiant reprinting rights for those characters?
I'm sure those conversation will either be revived or re-started soon.

Magnus and Solar were a huge part of the Valiant Universe and without them in the fold, VEI is going to have a tough mountain to climb.
Remember Ibooks released new material with one of our "favorite characters" and we all seen how that worked out.
IMO, without the foundation of the Valiant Universe in back of the GK characters, I don't see them amounting to much.

This isn't a Captain Marvel/Shazam situation. Dark Horse doesn't just have rights to the trademarks, they have the rights to the characters.manjirin wrote:Maybe they can do a Captain Marvel/SHAZAM! on Solar, Magnus and Turok. Who owns Valiant reprinting rights for those characters?
It seems like a pretty complicated situation. It gets thrown around that VEI owns the reprint rights to the Valiant material, but VEI has never actually confirmed this. I would assume that VEI owns Phil Seleski, and Dark Horse now has the rights to Raymond Solar, two very different characters. It seems like Dark Horse has the rights to a guy in red tights and a visor.
My take on that analogy is VEI creating a new character(s) to essentially fill the void.Dr. Solar wrote:This isn't a Captain Marvel/Shazam situation. A "Man of the Atom" to replace Solar.
Can VEI do that?

No, but considering the fan base and the free grassroots marketing, providing some information might be prudent. I’ll wait regardless but there comes a point where people loose enthusiasm.Geomancer wrote:Tired of waiting, doesn't mean I've completely run out of patience. And its not that I feel I am due an explanation or update, just that I sincerely would appreciate one. Especially in light of this latest bit of news from Dark Horse.

Exactly what I mean. The DC Captain Marvel is still Captain Marvel inside the comic. But on the cover and advertising he is refered to as SHAZAM!/ Power of SHAZAM! . So, Man of the Atom and Robot Fighter on the cover and Solar and Magnus inside should be a feasible way to publish.Geomancer wrote:My take on that analogy is VEI creating a new character(s) to essentially fill the void.Dr. Solar wrote:This isn't a Captain Marvel/Shazam situation. The Captain Marvels pretty much only shared a name.
But Solar/Man of the Atom and Magnus/Robot Fighter pretty much share everything else too.
I'm not expert on all this, but I think VEI has to make more changes than just to the title of the book.

I think there MIGHT be a way to keep Selski around but not as Solar. As an energy powered being, yes. But not as Solar. Either way, ths throws an interesting curve into everything.Geomancer wrote:Thats a tricky one.manjirin wrote:Exactly what I mean. The DC Captain Marvel is still Captain Marvel inside the comic.
