You guys got commissioned sketches from Sean at the Comic Con??? Wish I had known I would have been there to get me some!

How's he find the time to do it?
He had Dr Octopus' arms, how else? :P

I love Sean Chen's work! I remember when he was assigned to Iron Man when it was relaunched with Kurt Busiek, some people were going, "Who's Shen Chen?"

I'LL TELL YOU WHO SEAN CHEN IS!

Thanks everyone for the all the positive feedback and supporting my art. Its always good to see Valiant diehards at the conventions. Its still hard for me to remember names and link them to faces and screen names, and for that I apologize.

Thanks to EW68 for starting up this thread and Rufus for posting the pic. Michael, it was great speaking with you at the con.

Any questions, post them here, and I will do my best to respond (I really hate typing).

hey Sean, I have seen a few other people asking about this so I figured I'd post it here.

Do you have any more DC or Marvel Penguins available? Do you have any new Penguins in the works?

For the time being, I have stopped making the penguins due to the fact that lots of the materials used in sculpting, molding, casting and painting are kinda toxic. It just doesn't mix well now that I have a baby. There is also much less free time than I had before I became a dad.

The plan, though, is to turn over the casting and paint up phase to the capable hands of Mike Maguire, who already handled the casting and paint jobs on the Sting penguins. We are in the process of slowly rolling out the next penguins in the Valiant series. If he is up for it, he might fill the demand for the existing Marvel/DC penguins as well. Both Mike and I are very busy with family, so it may be a while before we get up to speed.

Mike is also the guy that handles custom commission penguins, but that is entirely up to him if he decides to take them on. I usually would oversee the customization and have final sculpt approval.

The Valiant series penguins are all limited edition and I believe have all been spoken for. The molds were pulped and recyled, so that is the end of that story.

There are about a dozen various Marvel/DC penguins left in inventory that are available under heavy constraints: You must prearrange to pick them up at a con that I am appearing on the first day of the show, and make use of existing inventory.

Thanks for taking an interest in the Penguin sculpts.

Please read Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D (War Machine: Weapon of S.H.I.E.L.D) #33 on sale now!

Support you local ex-Valiant artist at the upcoming Baltimore Comicon. Bernard Chang and I will be taking all comers for commission drawings.

I wonder if there is still a "Unity 0" cover base in the works for all the penguins?

:hm:

-slym (thanks Sean for ALL of his hard work)
Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

I have a fairly large number of Sean's early Harbinger pages for sale in the Buy/Sell/Trade section. They may be available for only a short time, since the initial feeding frenzy seems to be over already, and I am looking for a bulk buyer for the remaining pages.

Sean, some of my favorite memories of working at Valiant are of those absurd muttered exchanges when our drawing tables were next to each other. But you knew that already.

Commission drawings at the show are $100 for a character, $50 for each additional character. No need to be at the show. Paypal me and I will send out the drawing by mail upon returning from the con. PM if interested.

Not Valiant, but here's my two pieces of Sean's art...

And the pride and joy of my entire collection...I saw this page when the book was released and told all my friends that I would own it. I didn't know how, and I didn't know when...but it would be mine.
