Zoom Suit Collection
Here and there I've seen discussion pop up about the Zoom Suit books and how some people would like to complete their collections of these. I don't have a complete collection myself, and after seeing much discussion, I thought I'd dust off the books from the basement. The thing about Zoom Suit is that there were more variants than you could easily keep track of. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure of what variants are out there. Some of these books are actually pretty scarce too (i.e., more or less any copy of issue 4, the Gene Colan Armored Legends cover #1, the black and white covers, the Team Zoom Edition Kiss Cover, or the signed and cert'd Valiantfans.com Sears cover to name a few).
It strikes me as odd that any of these books would be truly scarce considering the marketing drive behind them, but we are talking about a series that sold in the 20,000 mark anyway, so some of the lower printed book are bound to have Valiant style numbers behind them. Then of course there are the DVD's, the posters, the myriad of variant card sets, bla, bla, bla.
Myself or a mod can always edit this thread, but I figured I'd start a list here, because I'm not sure if we have a central place to compile a list or not (there was the half-@$$ed list from the other thread, but nothing ever came of that).
Issue 1

as we figure out what other variants there were, we can add them to the list.

some of these descriptions aren't clear. 1/A through 1/G are fine. 1/H are two separate books, one is the Team Zoom Edition and the other is the Film Festival edition. There is also a Film Festival Metal Edition. 1/N is also OK. No idea what any of these are supposed to be:1/A Bill Tucci Cover—Saturday Evening Post (“The Kiss”)
1/B Fire Rescue cover; Billy Dallas Patton cover—I Can Fly
1/C Bob Layton cover—Bane Fall
1/D Armored Legends Bob Layton cover; 1st appearance of 10 variant; 1 in 10 variant

I've never seen any sketch variants for issue #1 of Zoom Suit.
I'm thinking I/J is supposed to be the Valiantfans edition John did, I don't recall if it said Team Zoom, but it did have the Sears cover rip from X-O #14.
These were basically correct, I just added a note or two.2/A Bart Sears cover
2/B Keron Grant Cover
2/C Bob Layton cover (1 in 10 variant, Armored Legends)

Holy crap!!!
I rescind my corrections (at least some of them) on the Zoom Suit #1 variants. You mean these books actually exist? There are even MORE Zoom Suit variants than we thought?

Ok, looking at that page, let's see what we've got:
the picture they have for 1/H is the Team Zoom Edition.
1/J does look like the cover for the Valiantfans edition, not sure if anything was added to the vf edition cover as I don't have it in front of me. I, K, L, and M I have never seen, but there they are. Does anyone have any of these books? Atomic Avenue has NONE of the unknown books in stock.

I'm pretty confident that the only thing that makes the ValiantFans book any different is a signature and most importantly the inclusion of the numbered COA.
Also that link is missing one of The Kiss covers variants. JT had a very limited set of variants made for friends and family that was very limited. I'm pretty sure I've got a copy and going out on a limb, I may remember him telling me that there are only about 100 of those printed. I could be misremembering that number though.

Yep, you're correct, it's the "Film Festival" edition, has the same art as the Team Zoom edition. Only 100 of them is what I had heard, too. Some really cool board member here sent me one for free and it is the ZS variant I am most happy to own (next to the Valiantfans edition).IMJ wrote:I'm pretty confident that the only thing that makes the ValiantFans book any different is a signature and most importantly the inclusion of the numbered COA.

I'm curious, which are those? variants, misprints, the "First Day of issue" ones, the "Prototype" ones, something else entirely?greg wrote:Each of the three #1 "regular editions" exist without the serial numbers.
WAAAAAAAAAYYYY too many variants with these books.
I wish we could get JT back here to let us know what all is out there. I recently exchanged e-mail with him, but I don't know if I kept his address.

They're not misprints... I don't believe they're variants either.Brother J wrote:I'm curious, which are those? variants, misprints, the "First Day of issue" ones, the "Prototype" ones, something else entirely?greg wrote:Each of the three #1 "regular editions" exist without the serial numbers.
They're the ones that comic shops actually ordered and received as "regular editions"...
except, they weren't numbered.
My guess is that they're "Prototype" ones... the ones from the printer
when everything was being checked except for (before) the numbering system.

They could be at the later end of the print run after enough books were printed to satisfy the serial promotion.

Does anybody have a ZS #1-3 WITHOUT the Film Festival Seal (SDCC)/serial number (in other words covers that are "plain"). If so then add another 3 to the total list of covers (the #1-3 I have are all the Film Festival/serial number editions)
I am getting the impression that the are just way to many covers...

In your list, the regular versions you could buy in the store at cover price were 1/A, 1/B, and 1/C, 2/A and 2/B, 3/A and 3/B and 4/A and 4/B.

I'm starting to wonder where Atomic Avenue got some of their scans and if the pictures they have are of books that really exist.
They also have two variations of the "Flight" cover of Zoom Suit #3 by Patton but they don't list the regular Tucci version.
Anyone familiar with Atomic Avenue know where they get their pictures from?

AtomicAvenue (AA) is populated by COMICBASE (CB), the comic cataloging software, by Human Computing. Both systems are integrated so that a COMICBASE user can, with a click of a button, begin selling online (via AtomicAvenue).Brother J wrote:I'm starting to wonder where Atomic Avenue got some of their scans and if the pictures they have are of books that really exist.

So in essence if one is incorrect (Atomic for instance) then the other is as well.
I could be mistaken but they get one of each comic when it comes out. They scan it, catalogue it (via indicia info) and propogate weekly updates to all CB users (and at the same time populate AA.
The CB User Community also has the capacity to upload and submit changes to pretty much any cataloguing field from writer/artists to storyline, circulation etc.
Is it possible that covers have been incorrectly catalogued...yup happens all the time (they post corrections on their forum) which is why everything is usually verified with cover scans and indicia checks prior to acceptance by Human Computing staff.
I had difficulty cataloguing my 3 copies of ZSVSS (1-3 with the SDCC Film Festival) as they did not appear and I could find no online catalogue of ALL covers (including at GCD).
If we can sort all the covers out (with scans) I can submit them via my software but they are extremely slow and backlogged at the moment (plus all their servers have been down for the past week or so)
Hope this helps

He also said that the "first 100 copies" promo for the serial numbers
are actually the last 100 copies because the printer actually printed
them in reverse order... but he had already dreamed up the
"first 100" numbered thing and didn't figure anyone would care.

Knightt's auction thread just brought this to my attention, Superverse did so many variants, they even did a variant DVD cover!!
Here's the one Knightt is auctioning:

and here's mine:

Not a major difference, but you can tell the background colors are darker on mine, and Knightt's has the "This is awesome" word balloon while mine doesn't.
I just find it funny that I have just found yet ANOTHER Zoom Suit variant.

Don't forget the other two (2) variant sets (thats right - sets) for issue #1.
There was a prototype set of the three (3) regular covers. This was limited to between 25 and 100 (I can't remember which) and in lieu of a serial number had a green alien head stamp.
There was also the first 100 sets three (3) regular cover subset where the serial number was 111001 thru 111100, 222001 thru 222100, and 333001 thru 333100. These came with a COA stating what they were.
Also there were a few prototype glow in the dark covers for issue #1 limited to 1 each. One was the Starlin cover with a 2"x2" patch of glow in the dark material on it.
Oh and there was also a production binder for issues #1 through 4 limited to 1.
