buy/sell courtesy

Post by Brother J »

This might *SQUEE* some off, but I don't give a crap, this is a pet peeve of mine.

If you put up a want list or somehow otherwise solicit that you're interested in buying books and someone sends you a PM in response, I personally feel it's only common courtesy to respond to the PM, even if it's a short "No, thanks" message.

I've had this happen several times here and I find it irritating, like I'm being kept waiting for an answer.

Another thing around here that sucks at times is that some of you get insulted if someone asks for a fair price for their books. I always try to be as fair as I can with my pricing, but for some it's never good enough. If you're not giving away stuff for free, they're not interested. Personally, I think if you're posting want lists here, don't EXPECT someone to give it to you free, unless you're soliciting for a trade. If someone wants to be nice and give you something, that's great. Expecting it is a *SQUEE* move, IMO.

it doesnt *SQUEE* me off dude in any way like it *SQUEE* you off i think.

if this happens all the time then fair comment, but if its one person that didnt get back to you or the other 27 messages in their inbox due to way too much personal crapolla in their lives, then maybe they need someone to cut them some slack.

I may have been guilty of this :?

Sometimes I just lose track of stuff and either think I replied or flat out forget. I'm rarely offended if someone has to nudge me a time or two to get a response. I was bad before I whacked my head, I know I'm worse now. I actually have a note pad that I scribble stuff in to help me remember.

On a loosely related note, I also can't seem to win at Soduku anymore. I used to destroy that game.

Might be worth mentioning that politeness is sometimes necessary in PMs regarding sales transactions.

It is sometimes nice to know who you are buying from/selling to as well other than just a board nick.

You're not the only one who hadn't gotten back to me, just the most recent.

I'm sorry you have personal things going on as there was no way of me knowing until you sent me a return PM. All I had to go on was that you had posted here several times since I sent it without any kind of response. I guess I figure time to post, time to respond to a PM, even if it's only a quick "not a good time right now". :?

Yeah i know dude, theres a few people on here i owe dollar to as well and untill i have the hour or three to trawl through it i cant even say this second who.

Anyone who i do owe can pm me now for swift action.

I wa sfine till recently and now im in a world of crap due to real simple stuff like my wife(bless her) trying to pro active about bringing more money in via a new strenuous job.

Im sure there are plenty of people here in similsr circumstances, but im definitely guilty of not sending the quick polite " way too busy to say right now dude" kind of message, so aplogies.

peace
be cool

I have to say that just about all of my communicatins on this board about transactions have been great.

There are a few times people have posted they want something, I PMed them about it, and they did not get back to me. I then will send a follow up PM (which is no big deal),........and a few times (really one dude does come to mind.... :( ) nothing, no reply, no no thanks, nada. I know they got the PMs (the PM is in my sent folder), but whatever.........

I have to admit that is a bit annoying. I did spend the time to look through my boxes to see what was what.

I really have no problem with someone saying...... thanks but no thanks. That has happened before. (but rarely I think I sell way under guide, so just about always, the deal goes down). One time I had someone look for me and give me a price, I turned it down because I thought it was too much....... thenn the other dude posted the same lot on the board, I think it sold in like 5 min.......    Then like 4 guys came after and said, "wow, great deal." It was a long time ago, but I have learned that good deals are never passed up.

But overall eveyone I have delt with is/has been great.

There has been a few times where a deal was agreed upon, but then the dude came back and said, um, no thanks. Really, this does not bother me either. I would not want someone telling me what to do with my money. But if you do decide on a deal, and then want to back out, you need to let the other person know quickly.

But I do understand what Bro J is saying.

I've also had times where two or more members respond quickly and I just take the best deal. I do let the others know what happened though....or thought I did, anyway.

My thought is this, this board is a great resource for finding stuff, if I screw it up, it only makes it harder on me later.

I think all of my communications have been very positive, although my wife says I have the patience of Job.. I can understand how some get frustrated. What can you do though? Send another Pm, and then forget about it :thumb:
