Favorite Post-Unity Storylines
Hello all,
I am sure I have seen this topic posted before but can't seem to find it. I was wondering what were peoples favorite post-Unity story arcs.
I never really kept up with post-Unity Valiant. I followed Harbingers until Lapham left and Archer & Armstrong until BWS left. I also read Bloodshot for about the first year.
I've heard some good things about the Malev War story arc that runs between Magnus and Rai and the Future Force.
Any favorite story arcs and issue numbers would be greatly appreciated. I hope I can pick up some of these on the cheap, hopefully, on ebay.
Thanks!

There are some decent reads between Unity and Chaos effect. The nice thing is that these are super cheap issues. If you want a lot of them, you should be able to get them really cheap. I know I have a ton of extras I don't really want...
Here's the stories I have liked:
Eternal Warrior 6, 7. The BEST post unity storyline. Period.
Harbinger up to 25. Not as good as 1-7, but still OK.
Archer & Armstrong up to 3-12.
Shadowman 7-12. Freaking awesome. After this the series continues to remain pretty good too.
The Malev War is all right. I think it is Magnus 21-37 and Rai 9-23. It is a fun read, but not a great read.
I also like the first dozen or so issues of Bloodshot.

I like Malev War as a concept, and some of the execution is good, but Ostrander's overt mistakes take me out of it.
Unlike others, I don't like Harbinger after Lapham left as I feel that the writer never got a good handle on the charaters. I do like his stories with the B-Squad after 25 as they provided a different perspective of the conflict and it was interesting to see some of the inner workings of the foundation.
I think that Vanhook and Chen were on to something when they took over towards the end, but didn't get to do much since the title was canceled.
I like HARD Corps. I think it's a very cool concept and would like to see it revived.
Vanhook's Solar was very good, as was his Eternal Warrior.
I like Obadiah Konishi as Rai, I think his stories were going somewhere interesting.
I think Psi-Lords could have been much better than it was if it had continued with the angel/demon allegory and not gotten lost along the way. If they were to revive it, I'd like to see that be explored more, maybe used as a thematic guideline for the storytelling.
Magnus went the wrong way after the Malev War ended, and it only got worse when Giffen came along as he undid everything that Shooter did when he erased Magnus' memory, which made it seem like nothing from Steel Nation-on ever happened.
I thought Turok got better after the first three issues, which were terrible. Baron and Rags did a great job on the series and it was cool to see Turok get acclimated to the then-present. I do think that the time leap from issue 3 to 4 (I think those are the right numbers) did the character a disservice as we never saw HOW exactly he got acclimated to the era... or something. I'm not sure what was missing, but I do feel that there was something lost there.
Timewalker had its moments, but it could have been much better if it had done what was said it would do, which is explore important moments in VALIANT history. It's not that the stories that were done are bad, it's just that they were of no consequence. They were typical, cliche time travel stories that only filled the pages with nothing. The series lacked a story that could hold it all together.
Without going over the entire list, those are the highlights that come to mind.

I think Eternal Warrior had some neat stuff, off and on, throughout it's run, as did Bloodshot.
H.Corps became trash after # 13
Shadowman did nothing but improve, imo, and it was a great, great series. I don't mean to knock the early issues, but I think they were so engrossing for me that I looked forward to every issue even more than the last.
XO was fantastic through 43, w maybe a hiccup. There are one or two nice scenes later on, especially in # 64.
Magnus becomes trash as of # 55. Rai was always pretty good, imo, although I wasn't totally happy w the way some of the characters were handled.
Dr. Mirage was a sad death. It was just establishing itself. I miss it.
Armorines/Geomancer/Psilords-I don't count these, as they were simply too short.
A&A was a regrettable loss. The stories they could have told. VERY bad choice to give it the axe.
Secret Weapons and Ninjak. Well, I liked the early SW and hated the later edition, but with Ninjak, I liked the early stuff but felt it was hit or miss until much later in the series. It had finally gotten GREAT when it died.
Feels like I'm missing something. But, I'm tired. Thought I'd add my 2 cents.

I would recommend reading one book for a few story lines.
I gives you a better feel for the character.

Thx , I have really enjoyed the X-O HC. I really never read the O-X before except for the Unity books. Maybe i'll keep going with X-O. I'm also really curious about Eternal Warrior and Shadowman as well.Elveen wrote:turbod16 wrote:This is a good topic for us newer guys coming back Valiant , i was kinda wondering what are some good story arcs to start to start my post unity reading.
