Suggesting Valiant Favorites
I really need to limit my collection, not just Valiant, but everything. I'm plum out of room and I have 4 boxes of Valiant that I'd like to get down to one to one-and-a-half. I haven't read everything... I just finished the original Sin City story and I've been working on Watchmen for a couple of months. I just don't have time to read comics like I used to. I'm currently auctioning my duplicates but I still have 2 long boxes of Valiant left. My question for you is what series are worth keeping? Even if I just kept a short storyline of one or 15 issues of a certain title I wouldn't mind. I need the room pronto. I'd love to just sit down and read everything but between work and keeping up the house and my wife entertained I can't do it. If you could just tell me a favorite or two I'd appreciate it. I really liked the Magnus/Rai crossover. I think it was in Rai's teens/twentys and Magnus twentys/thirtys but I can't quite remember. My comics are at home and I'm at work. So, What are your suggestions??? Thanks.

ValiantComics.com has a cool guide to Pre-Unity comics. Check it out below:

So Shaq, would you be a basketball player/movie star perchance?
You know, I think SoTU would take your arse to the cleaners in a real game.

The whole Vh1 line would take up more than a box and a half, probably closer to three long boxes if not more. I would say keep the pre-unity plus
Harbinger through 13
Archer and Armstrong up to 12
Shadowman the whole run (great stuff from Bob Hall)
The rest is up to you there are some real stinkers in the bunch but a lot of real great stories also, hope that helps at least a little.

I really liked the Acclaim Shadowman first 4 issues when Garth Ennis and Ashley Wood were on it. They were so good I kept buying the title even though I couldn't figure out where it was going until #11 when I just gave up hope. I need some of the later issues to complete my run on the Vh1 but I don't know where to get them. I don't want to pay the prices on ebay. I prefer to buy lots which is how I've aquired most of my Valiant comics and people just don't seem to have these in lots very often.dellamorte wrote:The whole Vh1 line would take up more than a box and a half, probably closer to three long boxes if not more. As far as Bob Hall on Shadowman... I met the man. He lives in town and was at a show that I had a table at, right next to him. He really wants to be in the comic business but he can't get work. He says it's due to the new generation of a "younger audiences, younger artist" thing that the bigwigs are trying to pull. I kind of felt sorry for him when he said this. Sounds like discrimination to me. He was doing commissions but I didn't have the money to get anything from him, that's why I was selling some of my stuff. He did the absolutely best Solar I've ever seen!!! I currently have a poster autographed by him on ebay that is in kind of rough condition. He only did 2-3 commissions during the 6 hour show and left about an hour early. When I was cleaning up I found this poster between our tables.
I wish I had the space to keep everything I have but I live in a trailer and there just isn't any more room. I'd like to have children in the next couple of years and it'll probabaly take that long to sell my excess items.
I've collected comics since childhood, 20ish years, and toys for 10 years now. Keep those suggestions coming.
What about the Second Life of Dr. Mirage. This always looked interesting. I have a magazine with him on the cover and it's just amazing.
Pre-Unity counts out Eternal Warrior then, right?

But his tag is Shag, which is British for *SQUEE*, of course.
And calling Shaq a movie star? Well, he was great in Blue Chips!

I agree...EW was pretty decent through its first issues...same with A&A...through about 12 or 13...I think EW went on better, longerUnblessed wrote:I liked reading about his 'past' lives in the first few pages of the EW books.Shag wrote: Pre-Unity counts out Eternal Warrior then, right?

When we say Pre-Unity (someone correct if I'm wrong) we're basically saying comics up to (and including) Unity that were made when Jim Shooter was at the helm. It's also before the MASSIVE print runs began that make the comics that came afterwards worthless. So EW 1 and 2 definately count. Most titles have a few issues after Unity that Jim Shooter did have some co-plots on (whatever you do, don't throw out Rai 0 and Magnus 20Shag wrote: Pre-Unity counts out Eternal Warrior then, right?

I have all the comics I own cover to cover (the golds and #1s are bagged and boarded) on a shelf that runs along the top of my closet. This includes the 30 odd issues of VH2 I have, all non-valiant, nintendo (including the hardcovers) and about 15 issues short of a complete VH1. I can go and measure the exact length of the shelf, but I imagine that everything I own takes about 4 feet of shelf space, so I figure VH1 takes up about 3. I can go and measure. It's been a long time since I've owned a box but the little ones are like 18 inches or so (right?) and the big ones are about 30 inches? If you notice, I don't really care much for the collectable value of my regular issues. You can even look up my previous posts and see what I once did to a Magnus Gold. Ahhh, to be young and stupid again.
Without a doubt VH1 can be condensed to two long boxes and I stand firm.
Don't take my advice, I'm only in it for the stories. (You should see what my regular novels look like!)
