My Valiant Story

Post by raffya »

My Valiant story? I actually started noticing Valiant for the first time when MAGNUS ROBOT FIGHTER # 1 came out. I inherited issues of Magnus when I was a kid from my Dad who loved the art of Russ Manning.

I thought it was very clever of Jim SHooter to create a New Universe of characters that was NOT a part of DC or Marvel (although I love them too) . I just wanted to try something new and explore a new universe.

I loved the Retro feel of Magnus but with contemporary storytelling and the fact that they kept Magnus' look faithful to the original which was so distinctive. Like a futuristic Gladiator/wrestler.

Then HARBINGER !! My Gosh!! That was a fantastic experience. Toyo Harada was the opposite of Marvel's Charles Xavier and I loved the characters of Sting, Zeppelin (originally), Flamingo, Torque. It was an Indie comic yet the scope was epic.

Of course, RAI came next!! Great to have a powerful ASIAN SUPERHERO in an American comicbook for a change and he was ALSO VISUALLY distinctive and dramatic. (Although I wasn't happy when they killed the original off and had him replaced by 2 others), then Shadowman and the concept of MASTER DARQUE and the ARACHNOIDS more often known as THE SPIDER-ALIENS. It was such an exciting time and the characters more down to earth and realistic and a sense that anything goes.

My old love for Valiant was recently rekindled by the new Origin of Harada on the remastered hardbound , as well as the new story in X-O Manowar.

I never thought Aric (X-O Manowar) would ever be a favorite character of mine or that BLOODSHOT would be just as fascinating. I have never been a fan of Marvel's Iron Man (though I loved the movie) or 'The Punisher'.

But X-O Manowar and Bloodshot worked so well for me too. How I wish Valiant Entertainment could have a joint venture with a major publisher and bring back THE ORIGINAL VALIANT UNIVERSE ( Not V2) and carry on where they left off.

Welcome to the bored!

Bloodshot is the title that most surprised me as well when I went back and started reading all my Valiants. I used to think he was just a Wolverine/Punisher knock off, but he ended up as one of my favorite Valiant characters.

**Thanks Dr. Solar.

Its been a while since the last time I was here.

You're right. I thought Bloodshot was a Punisher/Cable knock off but he has LAYERS in his characterization the others didn't have. And Bloodshot is pretty articulate.

I wouldn't mind seeing 'The Rock' (Dwayne Johnson) play him in a movie.

ALSO: I think to help the Valiant Universe get restored to high visibility, I think Valiant Entertainment should work with the Animation company that did the most recent Fantastic Four cartoon but at the same time get Jim Shooter involved in the production to maintain quality.

I think they should approach the storytelling fromthe standpoint of GEOFF the Geomancer.
An animated series should be produced under the name 'Secret Weapons' (but do it better than the actul comics) based on the first version.

This would give Geoff the Geomancer a chance to assemble a team of Valiant Heroes depending upon the need of the mission which gives us the viewers a chance to sample ALL of the characters.

(I know Magnus, Solar & Turok are licensed characters but if there's a way to use them here, I hope they do.)

As with a lot of stuff, the original Japanese series was cool until you yanks butchered it. The original games were pretty cool too.

PS sorry Raffya for the threadjack, what with you being new here and all. Squirrel needed putting in his place. It happens a lot. Feel free to join in with the place putting whenever you feel like it. :thumb:

Did you pick up the Origin of Harada Harbinger Hard cover?

The remastered coloring is excellent and it really is suited for a live action adaptation.
