BWS Solar Artwork 2007

Post by thedirtgang »

Hello all,

I frequently visit the site but rarely login and I am not sure if this has been posted before. However, I stumbled upon this sketch of Solar on Barry Windsor-Smith's site. It is dated 2007. I thought it was interesting that he is still drawing Solar. I'd love to see him back at Valiant.

Looks good! A nice recreation of the Solar 3 cover.

That's outstanding and curious, given his intentional distancing from anything Valiant...

That's awesome. If only BWS would do a 2-part Solar story: Solar: The End and Solar: The Beginning - the reverse of Alpha (the Beginning) and Omega (the End) - to re-launch Solar.

It looks almost like the Solar from the cover of Solar #3

Should've read the whole thread

IMO, that style is the best rendition of Solar.

I find it interesting that he used so much "white out" in the art. Seems a little out of character for BWS. Most of his artowkr I have seen is usually created in teh possitive and not in the negative.

True looks like it might have been drawn digitally

Also, kind of reminds me a woodcut printing block.

I'm with you, the pic has a lot of BWS qualities, but there are certain things about it that make me wonder if this is really his drawing or a fan creation.

I think this is definitely the work of BWS as it was posted on his official website (http://www.barrywindsor-smith.com/) under BWS File Finds.

You can also check there for news on his upcoming projects, although the information is old and is not updated regularly. He has been working on a graphic novel called "Monsters" for quite awhile now.

I also have been waiting on news of the release of the "Paradoxman" hardcover. I loved the other 2 hardcovers from "Stroytellers."

 Actually, I was being serious . . . It appears he went back over it with white for highlights as x-omatic noted. :thumb:
