I was wondering if any of you who collect CGC comics notice that some slabs have "clear spots" that look like it might be moisture in the plastic well containing the book inside the outer shell. I was wondering if this is moisture or is it a spot of plastic that was treated differently making it more transparent.
I've got the same thing on several of my books. For a while I thought it was moisture trapped (and it might be), but it's more likely that it's the shrinkwrap plastic stuff that they wrap the comic in and it gets adhered to the wells casing.
I'm just speculating, but yeah I've seen the same thing on my books.
You can search the CGC boards for threads on this. The concensus is that it's a visual interaction between the inner well and outer casing. Similar to the effect you get with polarized light filters.

i dont think its an optical phenomenon due to constructive interference from light.
on the other hand it might be constructive interference, since you usually see a refraction color pattern (similar to oily rainbow patterns) near these clear spots. if all those colors lined up properly you might get a full clear spot. but im just talking out of my *SQUEE*.
try this, if you press down on the case near the spot you can make it go away, temporarily, but it comes right back.
