eBay Activity Recently (say the last 3 months or so)
It seems to me that listings on eBay are not selling as high in general as things once were. Has anyone else noticed this?
I track a myriad of different collectible related things on eBay (i.e., Iron Man stuff, vintage Indiana Jones, vintage GI Joe, video game stuff, Non-Sports Cards, comics, CGC's etc) and there seems to be a dry demand for stuff.
Sure, you'll still pay a bill for a pristine complete vintage Indiana Jones figure, but there is no bidding competition for it, and if you want one in a lesser condition it's dirt cheap. There haven't been many lots of cards up from the sets that used to sell like nuts and only a few CGC's from my regular "watchings" really have any bidding wars....
Anyone else noticed any trends like this on the bay? On one hand, now seems the time to buy, but definitely not the time to sell if you need to unload.

I always have 100 items in my watch list and find it hit or miss. Some things have been selling below what I expected and some above. I watch mostly Valiant and Comcis art and a few other non Valiant books.

I agree with you, i think if you remove Valiant from the equation because of all the movie buzz you'd notice prices are down....there is a recession in the US after all.IMJ wrote:It seems to me that listings on eBay are not selling as high in general as things once were. Yup, the US is in a Recession. We have been for a while now (peak housing was July 2005...). Funny how things FINALLY catch up.
I noticed that the carded VINTAGE Star Wars figures weren't going for super stratospheric prices on eBay. It's amazing to see. I'm currently tracking a few carded figures and they are less than $50 for over half of them. Horay for me!
Not horay for everyone else.
Guess I could buy a lot of Cobra figures for a diorama or something.

Hey man, if you can afford it now then God Bless ya. Once things turn around again and people have excess money for things like collectibles, many of us might be in a goldmine.Unblessed wrote:Yup, the US is in a Recession. The problem is that even when the economy turns around, it takes a couple years after that for crazy luxury sales to pick up once people are confident in spending on "nonsense" again.

I think with a dodgy econemy for both US and UK the whole ebay thing is really win win for buyers, but it can be for sellers too as long as you are reasonable in how much you expect to get for said item/s.
The access to all these supposed HTF collectibles is simply much better nowadays and therefore genuine supply and demand rules kick in.
We always stay away from guides for the best part, preferring to sell for what we know we can get and not what we hope to get.
It means we do good business online as we are all about turning stock over and rotation.
This brings regular income and repeat business.
Screw the guide prices.
The guides are based on what things sell for so they need to go down is all.
Trouble is they are normally produced by people who have much $$$ invested so they tell you things are good but the truth is out there for all to see.
Dont get me wrong i dont think it means things are bad, quite the opposite in fact.
I think being realsitic is the main focus here, especially for us.
If you think your items are worth X amount and they dont sell, but constantly sell for the lower Y amount then i have no more to say.

I trade as Dead Universe Comics in the UK, which is no surprise to those who know of my legendary Dead Universe habit.

The economy has a weird effect on collectibles.
If people have less money, obviously less things sell...
BUT... it seems like very expensive items actually increase.
Sales of Amazing Fantasy #15 are very, very high lately.
There may be more people who don't trust their investments in the fluctuating economy
actually looking for "stable" alternatives in "key collectibles" like art, coins, etc.
It doesn't do anything for the majority of us, collecting items valued under $1000,
but the prices of items over that amount can be significantly higher...
since there may be an influx of "new, big money" for "key, big items".
