Lame Craigslist "Offer"

Here's the text:
500 PLUS MINT IN PLASTIC COMICS FROM THE 60'S THRU 90'S OVER 100 NUMBER 1 FIRST EDITIONS,,, CAME OUT OF STORAGE LOCKER 550 CASH TAKES ALL NOW ,, BOOK VALUE ?? I HAVE NO IDEA..

The guy lives just a couple miles away, and Spider told me about it. I went to look over the books...

Harby #1 is, at best, a Fine. It's massively wrinkled on the cover, lots of impact damage.

Here's what else there is:

X-Men #8 (Good, signed by Stan Lee)
Justice Leaue #8 (G/VG)
X-Men #128 (Good)
#133 (VG/F)
#142 (VF, signed by Claremont)
Annual #1 (G/VG)
Vampirella #1 (1992)
Eternal Warrior #1 Gold Flat (about a 9.2-9.4)
Brigade #1 Gold

And that's about it. The rest....and there was about 600 books...is pure 80's and 90's drivel. Anything older than 1990 is beat to hell, and of course, the 90's stuff is crap.

I picked up those books, plus some random books I need (Justice League #70 second print, Batman #492 second print), 24 in all, and told him I would offer him $30 for the whole stack (which, really, is a pretty good deal for me....but that's the point, no?)

The guy was like "would you give me $50 for the Justice League #8?" (my snipe for that on eBay would probably be $7-$8)...I said "nooo no no. If someone offered you $50, you should take it and run!"

I told the guy "look...this is all really common stuff. A dealer's not going to pay you $5 a box for these."

He replied "I'm not selling them to a dealer."

I said "and collectors don't want random stuff."

It was TOTALLY random, no runs of ANYTHING. About 30 post Unity books, lots of Image drek (no Maxx ashcans!), lots of Marvel and DC drek....just crap.

And the guy says "$550 for everything! STEAL 'EM!"

Total tool.

Just another idiot who doesn't know sh!t about comics, but thinks he does, and thinks because he's got an "old one", it must be "worth money."

Oh....and the comics aren't "MINT"...

Ah well....you never know, and you always have to investigate. That's how Chuck found Mile High, after all!

It was worth a shot.

I once found a stack of 1940s comics for $3 each at an antique shop...
it paid for lots of bills/rent in my first year of marriage (just some broke kids in love).
:thumb:

I've also been to hundreds of antique shops with comics, but nothing to buy.
My favorite "strike out" was a longbox of brittle 1980s comics priced at $10 each.
I was afraid to flip through them because I didn't want them to turn into dust.
:D

Check them out always. You would regret it for life if it was a MileHigh type collection. :hm:

At the local swap meet I had to argue with a guy because the comics he was selling still had price tags from the 90's.

"I'm selling you a $20 comic for $5"

Are you serious? If you are, well then, they're like a of giant garage sale convention party where people bring there own beer and other people show up to buy. (Beer=stuff to sell) I had know idea what they were either, until I asked to go to one in Southern California. When I arrived there I found out it was what people, where I live, in Northern California call a "flea market". (Flea market...now who ever thought up that name.....)

Yeah, I always have to laugh at that....

"Look, this Cyberforce #1 has a TWENTY DOLLAR PRICE TAG from 1992! How much do you think it's worth NOW???"

He didn't say that.

He said "in SoCal, they're called swap meets, and in NorCal, they're called flea markets."

Bit of a difference from saying they ORIGINATED in CA.

Clarification achieved!

You can score great at those shops! but sadly many times you find low grade books priced at NM guide
