My Valiant Story....
Well, I saw this board a couple weeks ago, and thought it'd be a good idea and join.
So here's my Valiant story in a nutshell.
When I was in college, I decided to intern at Marvel. I went and interviewed in the winter for a summer internship. I had my pick of any books I wanted. When I told my interviewer that I wanted the Silver Surfer. She said..."you don't want to be on the F_wordin' X-Books?".
"Nope. Silver Surfer."
That's when Valiant started for me. Because I ended up interning for Lynaire Thompson who was assistant editor on the Silver Surfer, Guardians of The Galaxy and some other titles that I can't remember.
I finished the internship and out of the blue, while back in Colorado, I got the call that changed my life. Lynaire left Marvel and went to work for Valiant, and for some ODD reason thought I'd make one heck of an assistant editor.
Boy was she wrong. Kidding.
I went, and was there on the end of the original Valiant Universe. I was there when Fabian came in and we all became excited about the prospects of doing something great. I was there laughing my *SQUEE* off every time Priest sent a Q&W plot in and I read it on the subway.
Mark Bright is the nicest human being I ever met. Even though he thought my mom was hot. Well she is, but that's just weird.
Art Holcomb, who wrote Eternal Warrior...great guy. His wife made me cookies when I went to ComicCon one year. Yum.
Fabian is a pure freakin' genius. He didn't fire me when we were playing the Assassination Game at work and I shot him while he was in a meeting with some sales people.
I miss Scott Friedlander printing giant pictures of co-workers faces on odd bodies. Gregg Sanderson's face on Demi Moore's body from Striptease...priceless.
Oh, we did do a lot of work.
I was there when we downsized and we went off to Glen Cove. That's where Walter came in. I haven't spoken to Walter in many years, and one of my biggest regrets in life is that I didn't keep in contact. But he is a great publisher and genius.
After being laid off from Acclaim, I was burned out comics in general. I just didn't have the fire to help facilitate creativity and success. Such is life.
I also regret losing contact with many of the people I worked with. Someone who I respected as a man and a behind the scene creative genius at Valiant/Acclaim just passed away, and it's very saddening. I think that's what caused me to write this post. Though I lost contact with him for years, his passing has affected me in many ways.
I miss you Perham.
