Valiant at LCS

Granted, we're not talking 50 cent bin prices but all were VF and low numbered. That said, I was not trying to imply that I thought that I got one over on the guy. I was simply saying that despite his attitude I did find and purchased some Gold Key Magnus books.Squirrel wrote:And for $6 each you think you got a good deal
Further, when I consider what it's costing me to put together my Star Trek Gold Key run, that today's comics cost around $2.99, that Gold Key books are not plentiful in this area, and that Valiant comics are spiking I feel that I paid a fair price.

Which LCS was this? In Alberta?*SQUEE* wrote:My LCS owner allways snickers at me when I talk about Valiant. I seem to be the only guy in the area that still gives a *SQUEE* about it. I bought those 7 months ago for cheap.
Gold Key comics are great. I'm really surprised that more Valiant collectors are not into them, and I personally like them more than the VH-2 books. I’ve slowly started collecting the Magnus and Solar runs with about eight of each but I only have one Turok. Maybe when I finish my Trek run (I’m about 8 issues short) I’ll focus on these more.Squirrel wrote:And the Gold Keys are coolI collect the Turoks and Solars...have a couple magnus, but they were in a lot i bought!

I cleaned out the pre-unity books in Graham Cracker downtown when I was there visiting law schools.Knob wrote:That's hilarious. I go to two shops, graham crackers in Lincoln Park or downtown Chicago who know and respect Valiant's stories. The other shop in Wicker Park where I live is generally mostly into newer stuff and not back issue heavy. I would hesitate to even ask them about Valiant.*SQUEE* wrote:My LCS owner allways snickers at me when I talk about Valiant. I seem to be the only guy in the area that still gives a *SQUEE* about it. The Lincoln Park one has a larger back issue supply (and larger than most Chicago stores) but I got a few downtown and some trades like the blue Rai trade. It's still an impressive store for being smack in the Chicago loop a stone's throw from Michigan Ave, rent must be outrageous. The Lincoln Park one still has some pre-unity but they are back to being priced higher. I did find a few pre-unities of varying quality in the quarter bin there in 2004. My best find there was the Magnus/Predator tpb for $2 there in great condition in '04.JustCallMeAric wrote:I cleaned out the pre-unity books in Graham Cracker downtown when I was there visiting law schools.Knob wrote:That's hilarious. NOPE. Not a clue. I said "I heard Valiant is returning and starting to produce some books based on some of their old popular titles".

According to the owner he once bought a ton of Unity #0 reds back in the day and made a killing.t_inkster wrote:Hey Lobo, I went to Comic Fever (Edmonton) last weekend and bought all the Unity comics. Lee at Comic Fever is kind of odd, that's all I will say. He probably HAS a ton of Valiants but they would be 99% commons. Myself and 1 other individual has probably picked Edmonton clean of any good Valiant/Acclaim stock over the past 6-7 years.
PM me if you want any other cheap commons, I tend to sell the whole unity run for $9 to people who really want a good read.

I assume you are local?

The majority of Comic Book store owners that I have dealt with are fanboys who have ZERO business sense.Daniel Jackson wrote:I've been to shops like that as well. I just don't understand that kind of mentality. They are in business to sell books, not keep them locked up in the back room so no one can buy them. Can you imagine any other type of store doing that? There were tons and tons of long boxes (i mean 2 - 3 deep to the wall!) all 90's era. But most of it, in addition to being not labeled or divided up, was inaccessible (because all the boxes were stacked on top, and behind, of each other)And he had a whole back room full of long boxes that he said has been "off limits" for years. Insane.
They would rather carry 100 copies of Ghost Rider because "That film totally rocked!" then carry 5 copies of Young Liars because "Nobody gives 2 *SQUEE* about Vertigo books."
They think someday the books that they keep in the dungeon are gonna make them rich so nobody can touch them. Or the thought of selling all of their Harby #1s for $20 and then finding out that they are selling for $100 a year later is one that keeps them awake at night.
In the meantime they need to sell 200 copies of Secret Invasion to keep the lights on next month.
I'm all for a dealer tucking away a few books to speculate on, but telling all of your customers that you have these books but they can't touch them is *SQUEE*.
That's why the Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons is such a realistic character.

Thanks! I really enjoyed both Hardcovers but now I'm wondering if I sould try to get Magnus and Solar back-issues (cause of the ownership/rights issue) or hold out for possible Solar/Magnus Hardcovers - In any case I'll definatly be picking up any future Hardcovers. Great stories!1st Among Equals wrote:Looks like the HC helped lure a new Valiant fan in. You may come across a few douchy tards who sell comics that are dumbass fanboys which is a shame as there are plenty of quality retailers all across the globe who actually support the industry for all the right reasons.
I just havent met many yet.
