My Valiant Story 'or' I was a second-hand Valiant reader
I was in Junior High when Jim Lee and company left Marvel to form Image and Valiant came onto the scene, finally shaking things up for Marvel and DC after years of their monopoly on the industry.
I have to admit, I stuck with Image and eventually moved with Wildstorm when they went to DC, which is where I still am.
BUT...
I had a friend who was really into Valiant and it was through him that I loosely kept up with all the titles. The only title I personally collected was Ninjak but that was mainly because Joe Quesada drew the first few issues and when he left, so did I.
My dad had collected the original Turok comics when he was growing up and when I told him that Valiant was producing new Turok comics, he started collecting them. After an appearance by X-O Manowar in a Turok issue, my dad got interested in X-O so he started collecting that as well. So I got to read both titles off of him.
When the Unity trade came out we picked it up (and as I stated in another post it's still one of my favorite crossovers of all time). I still have the Unity trade packed away somewhere but sadly, my dad decided to sell all his Turok and X-O Manowar comics.
I remember when the Deathmate series came out and Deathmate: Black was definetly my favorite (still have it as well).
X-O Manowar is definetly my favorite Valiant character.
If I had been older and had money when Valiant first came out, I would have followed them. That's why now that the new Harbinger and X-O Manowar trades came out (and I'm older and I have money now) I jumped at the chance to get both of them.
I'd never really read Harbinger and I'm really liking it. As far as X-O is concerned I didn't get to read his early issues since they were hard to come by at the time or too expensive for me. So I look forward to reading them in the new trade.
Whatever Valiant has planned for the future, I hope I'm still in a position to support them because I do think they are one of the more unique universes out there.
Good luck Valiant!

Welcome to the bored!
It's funny, you were like my best friend in junior high. We were both Marvel guys, then when Valiant and Image came out, I followed Valiant, and he followed Image.
You are in for a treat with the Harbinger hardcover. That story as a whole is just fantastic.
Welcome to the boards, it is a fun time to be interested in Valiant. Back issues are, for the most part, still dirt cheap.

X-O was my favorite Valiant character back in the day and remains so. I began with issues #1-3 when #3 was still on the rack. Welcome to the forum!grifter78 wrote:
