Bloodshot is one of my favorites. I think the quality only marginally dropped off during this whole series, as opposed to the utter freefall a lot of the VH1 stuff took.

bedsides him fighting an aligator..... TWICE..... it did stay good for a while.

Yea Bloodshot vs the clown & alligator is lame, otherwise great read all around to the verry end Dont sleep on the VH2 of this book!! Classic read

It's holding my interest far more than I anticipated. When I saw the character many years ago, it seemed to be the quintessential Punisher/Cable/any dude with a lot of guns knock-off, but reading the actual story so far, I find it intriguing.

At least by using him as a superhuman science fiction experiment, the action is a bit more credible. Vanhook's writing of Bloodshot's inner dialogue is quite good!

I haven't gotten to the alligators yet.

I think alot of people thought that of early Valiant characters until they actually read them.
Such a shame the outstanding standard set by pre Unity didnt last the whole vh1 run.

See, the clown is a Punisher spoof. Uzzi symbolizes the fact that, compared to Bloodshot, the Punisher is a clown.

And the alligator? Well, it's just a gator, I guess.

Uzzi is a parody of the Punisher. Just keep that in mind and you should laugh, even.

Now that I have bound my VH1 "Bloodshot" books into two HC volumes, I have just read issues 0-10 for the first time and I am really enjoying this series so far. I could have really got into this book back in the day and I may even like the old version a little better. At least he didn't get blown up three times in the first issue!

I read the entire VH1 Bloodshot set for the first time last month, and my impression of the early issues was much like yours, MKB. The Perlin line art and the colors in the interiors were quite unique; the covers as well. Though the color spectrum lost some of its luster after the first year and got a bit muddy for a while, the series remained a fun, ripping read straight through the "Showdown in Clowntown" 2-parter, which for some totally irrational reason I enjoyed tremendously…with a couple of bourbons in hand, I might argue that that was the apex of the VanHook run.

The early- and mid-30s ##s were for the most part forgettable, and the Rampage character was too close to Spider-Man's Venom for my liking--seemed like an unimaginative copy. Also, IMHO, both of the "Bloodshot vs vampires" storylines were dreadful, with Mike Grell's 2 issues being the title's nadir. Fortunately, once VanHook retook the reins at #38 and then passed them off to Mark Moretti shortly thereafter, the quality of the books rose again to roughly the level of ##1-12; the final 3 installments are absolutely worth working your way toward!

*The fact that Brooklyn neighborhoods provided the primary locations for much of this series made it fun to read, too, especially because the sites weren't glaringly obvious picks. I'd guess that VanHook lived here for a while.

I had to laugh after reading your comments because I was just starting to read the first installment of "Uzi the Killer Clown." I thought I was all done reading the "Clown" story, but then here comes the 2-parter you mentioned "Showdown in Clowntown!" Bourbon would have made this story easier to get through. That story wrapped up my first HC volume, so now I get to read the "Rampage" storyline next and the remaining 27+ issues. There were a couple of earlier "Bloodshot" issues that crossed over into "Secret Weapons" and I thought the stories and art were pretty weak.

I just read up to issue 40 in this series and I really like the art work from Norm Breyfogle and the writing from Kevin VanHook. The colors are beautiful too! I had to laugh while reading issue 35 with Bloodshot losing over 100 pounds of muscle mass from "Rampage" exiting his body. The whole time I was reading, I kept thinking of "Skinny Arms Rob Lowe" from the Direct TV ads.

Only 12 issues to go, plus the "Yearbook" and "The Last Stand" book.

Yes, I think it's issue 39 that struck me as being one of the best installments in the latter half of the book's run. If I recall correctly, that's the issue where Bloodshot discovers that his occasional companion from the mental institution has OD'd on her meds at his home.

Michael, what did you think of the (first) Rampage and Birthquake issues? Just curious. Wonder if I was too harsh about those.
