Free comic book day signings?

Post by Elveen »

At the LCS closest to me, previously they mentioned that for free comic book day, they were going to have someone doing signings.

So I was there today, and I asked the dude about the signings...... he said some guy.... famous (I guess) worked on some marvel books, and now has a book of his own. (he showed me on the wall, but I was not really intrested). I sorta jokingly asked if they could bring Sean Chen in..... the dude said "We called him, but he is going to be somewhere else."

So now I kinda want to call all the LCSs around me and see if they are going to have signings too.

Is this a common thing? LCSs having comic dudes doing in store signings.

Well, an in-store signing was how I met Martin Nodell, who just happened to be one of the classiest gents I've ever had the pleasure of coming across. His passing is a great loss to the world. They don't make em like that anymore :(

We have had two since moving:

Jason Aaron (Scalped, Ghost Rider, Wolverine)
Phil Hester (Green Arrow, Darkness, Ant Man)

and have a few others in the works:

Tony Moore (Walking Dead, Fear Agent, Exterminators)
B Clay Moore (Hawaiian Dick, Battle Hymm)
Matt Fraction (Punisher War Journal, The Order, Iron Fist)

I do believe we are having Jesse Delperdang (inker for Marvel & DC, most recently Batman & the upcoming Captain Britain mini series) for FCBD, but I'm not 100% sure on that...

It's always a lot of fun, we put the creators up in a hotel and take them out for dinner, and shoot the *SQUEE*. Plus you get to hear all the dirt and upcoming projects others don't know about :thumb:

heard a great Grant Morrison story lately

In the 90's there were more 'in stores' don't seem to be as many!
I met Ron Frenz at one when 'Thunderstrike' came out, super guy, signed a bunch of THOR books for me.

I know more store is having Andy Smith (XO Manowar) and someone else I cant think of right now. They have signings all of the time. Over the last year they've had VanSciver, Darick Robertson, the writer from scalped and some other people I cant think of. The artists always do free sketches and usually give away free OA in raffles.

Check out their website its pretty cool.

I used to see Marty at Daddy Jim's Comics in High Point all the time. He was a class guy and his wife Carrie was a sweetheart. Somewhere around here I have a copy of Zero Hour #0 (blank cover) with a sketch by him on the cover. If I can find it I'll post pics.

Any chance I could send something up for a sketch?

Impressive. Iron Fist is one of the best books out right now. Hawaiian Dick is pretty damn good whenever it comes out too.

Hester is going to be near me for FCBD, so I'm pretty stoked about getting my Ant-mans signed and maybe a quick sketch or something.

- Bill Morrison (Bongo Comics, Simpsons)
- William Katt (Greatest American Hero)
- JT Krul (writer, Fathom & Soulfire)

As far as I know, there isn't going to be too many people in the SF area signing.

My shop brings a lot of folks in for signings though.

Most recent was Darwyn Cooke (New Frontier) during Wondercon weekend.

Good luck with Matt Fraction. He pulled a NO SHOW at PLANETCOMICCON in KC last month. But everyone else on your list was there. TONY MOORE ROCKS!!!

A little late
but at Green Brain Comics in Dearborn, MI
they had David Peterson who does MouseGuard and James Kolchaka of Monkey vs. Robot fame as well as that awesome hulk fighting the rain story from years back.

David and James both did sketches for my daughter, 1 of Monkey and David drew an armored mouse.
