Re-reading Visitor vs Valiant Universe Part 1

Post by The Harbinger »

I figure I'll follow in the footsteps of xoken and continue the polls by doing the series he never got to do. I'll try to post one a day, but I'll see how it works out first. Also, the poll should go only to five, too lazy to go to ten :P , but you can give your score in decimals or something.

First one up:

Visitor was a bit of Valiant's attempt to go more mainstream. Well, he was not a typical superhero, but he was a uniformed hero, known to the public. In a way, seeing how much the normal people of the Valiant universe reacts to the Visitor is a reminder of how different the Valiant universe is compared to for instance DC and Marvel.

We had seen a little bit of the Visitor in Chaos, but this is the setup-issue. Not easy to judge, as it just sets up for future issues.

The writing is ok in the beginning of this issue, but quickly turns a bit stiff as all the heroes line up to challenge the Visitor.

The art is nice through-out, with a spectacular double-splash (that we have a whole thread about). The colors feel a bit neonish, which I guess fits the mainstream idea. I wonder if this is one of the issues just before computer coloring? If so the color art is a guide and then the coloring has been done more mechanically after that guide, unlike previous Valiant coloring?

Nice introduction to a new hero, and IMHO one of the coolest uniforms a superhero could wear. It's kinda weird how he's able to pwn Solar despite his god-like powers though.

All in all, still a great read, 4/5

A little too "mysterious hero appears and all the other heroes fight him for no well-defined reason" for me. Great art though.
