I never saw it, but I'm willing to bet it shipped LATE. Probably 1-2 years later than expected.
Oh, it was. I have two postcards saying "Uh, it's running late again." From Image? Nah!

I bought one LOOOONG after it shipped, and I think that, if you were one of the ones who sent the coupons off, you'd be *SQUEE* off that it wasn't really worth the wait. Of all the stories in there, the Savage Dragon one is the important one, since it sets up a lot of the plotlines that would end up with God and the Devil in a slugfest.

And God going, "Don't *SQUEE* with God."

(Also, if you ever decide to sell off those postcards, you could theoretically package it with a copy of Image Zero. It'd be great for historical reference. And hey... remember when the IMAGE 10TH ANNIVERSARY HC was supposed to be published?)

Heh.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why discipline is not a four letter word. ;)

Buncha crybaby, spoiled artists (for that is EXACTLY what most of them were), demanding the chance to be 'free' of the 'Great Satan' of Marvel...deadlines, editorial corrections, etc....and they fell FLAT on their face.

How's about:

Dr. Strange #15 Unauthorized Amy Grant photo Cover

Fantastic Four #347-349 Art Adams guest Artist

Marvel Comics Presents #72 1st Part Weapon X story

Silver Surfer #34 Thanos Returns

And I know it never got hot once it came out, but how many got caught in the pre hype of Venom #1??? I preordered 25 copies and still see people trying to just get cover for it.

Speaking of pre-release hype. WWWAAAAYYYY Back...Probably the 1st time I officially got comicbook prehype suckered.....Dazzler #1!!! (I think it was only available by LCS's and I had to beg my dad to drive me like 15 miles to the ONLY Comic Store to get a copy cause it would never be on sale at the local 7-11)

BTW, I have one of those Preacher Previews. I keep waiting for that to be the next rare hardly ever seen for sale oddity. But its cool to have one :thumb:

To be fair, though, the Image HC was initially late because McFarlane's story was to use Cogliostro, who was co-created by Neil Gaiman (and there was the Gaiman/McFarlane lawsuit).

Now, the second problem that's been going on is that it's because Silvestri hasn't gotten his in yet. So that's classifiable in what you said.

Yeah I remember that 3 issue story arc of the New Fantastic Four with the Hulk, Ghost Rider, Wolverine and Spiderman. That hype died pretty quickly tho, but 347 did reach around $15 at one point. I still got like 2 copies of each of those issues lieing around, which I'm planning to just sell off in a big lot.

I guess the Image 10 Year Anniversary Hardcover will never ever be released! Hmm they should wait 12 more years and they can do the 25 year anniversary! :thumb: But hey who knows they might belly flop and get bankrupted or something! :o

Dazzler #1...heh heh. So much hype.

Surfer #34 is a GOOD book.

Remember, Capt Marvel #25 was 'one of those books' for a very long time...Starlin was HUGELY popular in the 70's, and his runs on Marvel and Warlock were VERY key issues....and spent most of the 80's in quarter bins (or long boxes, where people who'd spent a buck each on them..a BUCK! They were only 25 cents! ;)...carefully kept them, waiting for the next time they'd be 'worth something') and LO and BEHOLD, Infinity Gauntlet set off a Starlin FIRESTORM, and all of a sudden, the Starlin Warlocks were $15, and the Marvels were $20!

Surfer #34 is a GREAT book, that launched one of the most succesful comebacks in comics history (remember, Thanos totally disappeared from the Valiant Universe, except for flashbacks and reprints, from 1978-1990!)...and it will be a key book in the future. ;)

The others? Well...too many copies and not enough care. ;)

Hmmm...I don't have a copy of the Preacher Preview. Hmmm...

However...there was a retailer preview of Sandman, sent out in late 88, to retailers (natch!)...I think it sold for $150 last month on eBay. Crazy, huh?

And...I've got a San Diego panel preview of JLA #1...that should be quite the find. ;)

Here's a possible one for the near future: The latest issue of the Intimates.

Apparently, there's nipple shown on the front cover by a charater that's underaged. The LCS guy today was ranting about he couldn't sell this -- the baptists would have him destroyed as a child-pornographer and he'd be reduced to "selling Amway door to door."

So, he's not gonna sell any of this issue starting as soon as the media gets here so he can name-drop, etc. (If you know this guy, you understand. He's a nice person most of the time, but so fulla >SQUEE< that if you gave him an enema, you'd bury the rest of him in a matchbox.)

Anywho, remember Alpha-Flight 106, or the recalled Wolverine where he calls Sabertooth a "kike?" I'm not sure if this is the first time DC's pulled this to boost a book's sales, but it is superbowl week and I'm sure a "coloring malfuntion" may be in the future.

Dark Horse #8. Stilll have it. It spun-off into X's own title. The series really had nice cover art but X failed because of the number of "Dark", "morose" ,vigilante-type heroes already in print.

I'm just glad he didn't have "Blood" in his name.

Anyway, considering Jim Starlin quitting Marvel around... last year? Year before? It might take a little while before he comes back.

They probably could still use Thanos anytime they want though.

Thanos, not Starlin. Thanos was HUGE in 1991, the talk of the town, and his first app was 'going for' $150. It was a HUGE comeback for Thanos, and Infinity Gauntlet, after the X-crap books, and Toddy's Spiderman, was the best selling series of the year...which is why I don't understand why it still sells for $5-$8....it's not as if they're 'rare'. ;)

Granted, it goes for that NOW...but this was 14 years ago!

And I STILL don't have a decent copy. ;)

IG was a pretty decent story...but all the friggin issue cross overs that you had to get were a pain in the a$$...

Then they tried it again with the crusade...what a piece of crap that was... :P

Wow, four copies of #3!

So I guess this really does vary.

I remember Infinity Inc. 16 (where Mr. Bones first appeared) was supposedly hot because McFarlane based Spawn's design on him.

Then there's X-O Manowar 4 for the Shadowman appearance (in, what, one or two panels?).

And Green Lantern 47 used to go for a lot, but other than being between issues 46 (Reign of the Superman crossover) and 48 (beginning of Emerald Twilight), was there anything else special about this book?

Ren and Stimpy #1. If I remember, it had a scratch and sniff cover that was cat litter.

Some of the various Transformers: G1 vol. 1 previews and #1 variant covers from Dreamwave. If you think Liefeld's art is bad is bad Pat Lee's art on Transformers is a LOT worse.

G.I. Joe vol. 2 #1 from Devil's Due may have gotten up to $10-$15
range back when it was first released.
