Wanted Amethyst Princess of Gemworld #2 & #3--35 Ct vari
Been looking for years for the 35 cent #2 and #3 Amethyst Princess of Gemworld variants from a Kansas City convention from about 1983. Anyone ever see these?
Let me know if you have or can locate these variants. Preferbaly in Vf+ or better condition

Zeph------I only have a recollection from a 1989 Overstreet price guide. I am not 100% certain, but I almost swear it was #2 and #3 from 1983?
I could be wrong..............or Overstreet was wrong
I wouldn't be worried about a stampede of interest...........unless something generates interest in the character (very remote). I have never seen a copy of these variants

Ahhhhhh...NEVER doubt the Master of Variants....it is, in fact, the 35 cent variants (not the '75 ct variants', which I would assume would be the Canadian books...if they exist), and, they are, in fact, #'s 1 and 2. Check your O-Streets from the late 80's, gents.dzminn wrote:I think you mean the 75 ct variants, but still...

And I have no clue why these quarter books sold for $12.66 EACH. They are NOT RARE.
Stupid people with their stupid greedy 'I HAVE TO HAVE IT' mentality causing havoc in the marketplace.
Lord.
And you KNOW those are all shill bids. Well, at least until the high fool came along. Look at the history. I bet the high bidder's kicking him/herself, cause they probably only wanted to be GAURANTEED to win, and put in some absurd amount...not thinking idiots would drive it up.
Oops.

Makes you wonder about this auction.

Hey the #1 in the auction above is different. It doesn't have the 60c on it. Is this the variant you are talking about?

Hi Zeph, actually I was looking at the 2004 Overstreet, on page 387 under the listing for Amethyst it lists issues 1 and 2 as having been tested at the 75 cent price point in Austin & Kansas City.

Then Overstreet either (A) made a mistake all those years listing for 35 cents (which would actually make sense), or (B) made a mistake NOW listing them for 75 cents.dzminn wrote:Ahhhhhh...NEVER doubt the Master of Variants....it is, in fact, the 35 cent variants (not the '75 ct variants', which I would assume would be the Canadian books...if they exist), and, they are, in fact, #'s 1 and 2. Obviously, 75 cents makes much more sense, but keep in mind that O-Street listed them for YEARS as '35 cent variants'.

But now you've got me in research mode, so....as listed in the O-street Guide:
2004 - 75 cents
2003 - 75 cents
2001 - 35 cents
1999 - 35
1998 - 35
1996 - 35
1993 - 35
1989 - 35
1988 - 35
I'm too lazy to check them all.

So...at LEAST from 1988 to 2001, it was listed as 35 cent variant.
So...anyone have their 2002 handy? What changed it? What new info did Bob and staff get?
Who knows ANYTHING about these conclusively?

Thats absolutely correct about the prices I read-----35 cent variants-----but 75 cent variants for #1 and #2 do make more sense. My recollection from 1989 prices for these variants is $3 - $5 per comic at the time. Information is indeed elusive. The hunt for these comics continues...........
Interestingly enough I have a Star Trek Dc 1983 #1 comic with a barcode and price of 95 cents. Purchased at a Detroit convention for $4. Have not found another one since buying in 1991, even thought I tried looking for more copies. This is not a "direct sales" version with prices for England, Canada, and the USA. There is only one price and that's 95 cents. All other Star Trek Dc #1 1983 barcode versions have a normal 75 cent price tag only.

Don't worry, I don't plan on hunting these issues down. I'm fine buying old issues of Betty and Veronica or Cheryl Blossom, but as a man I don't think I could bring myself to buy this one.
Easy 25 cent bin material. But it is a good read. At first I thought the book was lame too, but try the first 12 issues on the cheap
If you like Archie comics, I could recommend DC's "Angel Love" from 1985-----ask Zephyr for a reading endorsement. Kidding...........as a man, I can't subject you reading that torture and goofy art. No I never bought an issue of AL

Someone got shilled big time. $150???

Also only one one 35 cent #2 has ever been graded (9.0).

Thanks a million for this information Chuck and Ryan. It can be confirmed that there are Amethyst #1 and #2 35 cent test versions. Finally a confirmation of this mystery!!! Normal Amethyst #1 & #2 comics from 1983 have a price of 60 cents
There were basically 3 series of Amethyst
1983-----12 issues that have printed "maxi-series." Classic!!!
1984-----#1 Annual
1984-----16 issues----really got bad after issue #11 when Keith Giffen
got hot and heavy with that "Lords of Chaos/Order Dr Fate
bullcrap :x .
1986-----Amethyst Special #1------More Keith Giffen crap---- :x
1987-----Amethyst 4 issue mini series. More Keith Giffen crack smoking
comic story telling. What the hell happened? The character is
totally unenjoyable and unrecognizable. KG's lame attempt to
push Amethyst into Legion of Super heroes continuity. He
eventually kills Amethyst in the 30th century. BS story.
What a putz smacker that Giffen is. He must hate women?? You
would think so after reading Amethyst 1987 and Legion.
There are people that actually like this character. Guess
Giffen has a license "to kill" if a book doesn't sell well?
Shoot! There was some interest and the book did get 2 long
series :x
Now all I need to do is find copies------the hunt
continues...........
WOW----EBAY has #1 and #2 35 cent editions for sale. But the price is higher than thought. I would trade my extra Shadowman #2 (750 print) for these. MINI volume #3 too.

I tried REAL hard to let these slip under the radar, but ala, twas not to be. Another of the 80's gems lost from me.

No. These books are legitimately rare. You can't really speculate on books that have, so far as we know, only shown up ONCE on eBay in 10 years.400yrs wrote:Do you think this is just a speculation phase on these particular variants or do you all think the prices will remain high? Why is it that these variants are like gold, but others like ASM and DD aren't as pricey? Is it a supply vs demand issue or just a speculation craze phase?
What ASM and DD variants are you referring to?
Oh, and the 95 cent thing? That's a Canadian version. 1984-85, right?
