Valiant Panel at the NYCC in April-Updated
Here is the blurb for the Valiant Panel at the NYCC
VALIANTFANS.COM EVENT: "X-O MANOWAR: BIRTH" Panel
X-O MANOWAR: BIRTH will premier at this event! ValiantFans.com has obtained preview copies that will be on sale at this event two weeks before it hits stores. The panel features original X-O Manowar creators who will be available for signings, including star artist Sean Chen! Jeff Gomez, the creative force behind the Pirates of the Caribbean mythology and the Turok video game franchise, will moderate. The X-O MANOWAR: BIRTH hardcover collects the X-O Manowar origin story (X-O Manowar #0-6) and features an all-new epic "The Rise of Lydia" story by comics legend Bob Layton! The recently announced HARBINGER movie deal with Paramount Pictures and director Brett Ratner (X-Men 3) will also be discussed.
Panel is tentatively set for Friday April 18 between 6 and 7 in Room 1E03

Alright, here's my best panel blog.
Jeff Gomez modrated. that guy's really cool and down to earth. Did a great job. Sean Chen and Chrysoula Artimez-Gomez sat on the panel.
I saw Woogie, JohnyR, Svair, and the guy who bindes valiants into hard covers (sorry i forgot ur name
). Mike McGuire was there sitting listening. always nice to talk to him. (i learned what the next two non-Valiant pengies are ...i'm not telling, but you guys will like!).
Nothing earthshattering or any major new developments. But it was nice listening to Sean talk about his start with Valiant and what he's doing now. and i have a new respect for all the hard work Chrysoula did with the coloring on the Harby HC. and i got to see her first colored verson of the X-O HC cover. (Woogie got that 'copy') They both look cool but i kind of like the first verson better.
She does great work.
Nice turn out too. I'd say about 30-35 people showed up. Lots of good questions. and most importantly no 'spam a lot guy' showing up in the middle.
And posters were handed out to those who attended.
Thanks go to John (Svair) (working hard as usual), and the panel.

I got there late, but I made it before the end at least. Missed all the news and whatnot. Dang job and slow cross-town bus! Nice to see emerging enthusiasm for valiant however!
The coloring on the new X-O hardcover looks terrific. Here is front/back of my own personal copy which I picked up from Midtown Comics after the panel ended -- with a 25% discount, thank you very much Midtown! Came to $20.81 or so with tax!

At the panel, I got one of the cool X-O mini-posters! These are even better than the Harbinger ones that were being given away at the Big Apple last November!
Chrysoula and Sean Chen were kind enough to sign my mini-poster (thanks for the nice silver sharpie Rufus, it looks great!) - plus I got another one with my hardcover purchase from the Midtown booth upstairs:

Too bad I didn't make them match up properly, but you get the idea...

After the panel, Chrys was kind enough to show off her initial coloring for the new X-O hardcover. They asked her to re-do it and she complied. We all three agreed that the first try was juuuuuust a little bit better than the version they went with:

I managed to snag the four 8 1/2 x 11 color copies showing off the new coloring process, including the prototype X-O colors above. I think Rufus was thinking something like, "hey, check out the pushy New Yorker barging up to the front and snagging those goodies! And he wasn't even here to know what the heck they are from!" Sorry, I should've shared with you Ruf, but I wanted to keep the "set" together. Anyway, in addition to the initial version of the X-O hardcover, we also have The Grackle and Armed & Dangerous:

I missed saying hi to TWT after the panel, but Sean and Chrys were gracious with their time and Jeff Gomez was nice as well. All in all a good time!
