I thought that you ddint include prices of "lots" in the price guide. I can see why you would on a book like this, but I thought that in the past you didnt include lots... :thumb:
Ahh, but did you notice my wording?

"...re-write the price guide after these find their new homes."

I'm assuming they will be sold individually after this auction, and at least a few
will probably wind up right back on Ebay in single issue auctions.
They'll only have one home after this auction, but many homes... later.

Seriously, though, I'm pretty sure we'll have a much better understanding
of the "going rate" once these books change hands a few times.

Shadowman Vol 3 #2 variant has fluctuated considerably, even with only a few sales.
X-O 1/2 Gold was sky-high, then the "supply" showed up and it fell to $50,
but once the "supply" was dwindled, it's moved back around $75.
Some of you will remember that Chaos Effect Omega Gold was once "plentiful",
and fell to around $10. Now it's fairly solid around $18.

As a general (maybe even, gentle) reminder to all,
comic books have a variety of factors that influence value:
Supply and demand, obviously...
But demand is usually based on:
Story, artists, character appearances, relative Universe importance,
supply (kind of a catch-22), comic age, and the all-important "checklist" factor
(meaning, "I need to check it off my list").

In the Valiant world, it's hard to give more than one or two of those demand qualities
to Acclaim's "Turok: Evolution EB Games Variant"...
so it's likely that if supply changed greatly, value would be greatly affected.

Valiant is really a tale of two mindsets... story and scarcity.
Books with both... like Harbinger #0 Pink... seem to be foundational books.
Books with story only... like Rai #0... are solid, but easily supplied.
Books with scarcity only... like X-O #1/2 Gold (or many other variants)...
are suddenly "shallow" when the supply fairy arrives.

That's not to say the more limited books will ever be a dime a dozen...
but it will make you nervous if you paid too many dimes. :)

Up to $464. I guess it's possible that a board member will not win these and we will have to pay out the nose for them when they go to auction individually. I've got a conection at EB Games. Think I'll try that route here shortly.

And this is why I don't collect Acclaim! :o

I could buy a nice copy of Hulk 181 or 10 copies of Unity red for that type of coin. I wonder which is better in the long run.

Yeah I thought that you might have meant that...so that means that you still will not include lots in the price guide, but I would agree that we will have a great idea about how much these are worth after this auction. :thumb:

So what are y'all gonna do if Ryostar wins, then sends 'em off to PGX for grading?

BTW, the most I would pay for one of these ... on my best day ... is $25. But then I'm such a cheep bastich. This will be a fun one to watch.

Oh man...I hope that does happen...at least it would create some serious drama....I dare Ryostar to win these books....matter of fact..I double dog dare him. :thumb:

Though I did breech etiquette and skip the double dare and go straight to the double dog dare... :thumb:

Even though it's a book I need, I also place a fixed lower value on ths issue. Divided by 10, & its already went over my price for a single copy. I might trade $50 in value as a trade, but if I were paying cash I doubt I'd pay more than $25 also.

Same thing with the Bloodshot #6 VVSS I need. I have a Gold Perlin/VanHook signed copy of that issue, it's just not signed in Red or in that rare 1st Valiant sleeve with the larger logo on the flap (a sure sign you have a genuine VVSS copy, even though the sleeve is for crap).

...Anyway, having a Red signed one is more common than my "Rare" Gold signed copy. It's "Special"! :) ---Steve

I heavily agree with Whet here. I just can't see the justification of people shelling out major coinage for a book that is horribly written with no significant impact to the Valiant Universe. The print run of this book is also unknown as there may be boxes of them lieing dormant in some EB warehouse.

As much as I like Valiant books, I would definitely opt to put this kinda money on a Hulk 181 as Wolverine has become one of the top Marvel icons. Just ask people that has no interests in comics and find out just how many of em haven't heard of Wolverine compared to...Turok. I can easily see Hulk 181 becoming the next AF#15 within the next decade or two.

Good lord! I haven't been following this. I see I've missed a heckuva lotta action!

Good job Greg, helping this guy get the money he deserves for 'em!

Hey, Zeph, you got outbid, dude! You gonna hang or give up? :thumb:

Me, there's no way I can get a piece of this action. Sigh... But again, I'm only interested in VH1, so it's no loss to me. Still, fun to see this one skyrocket.

I keep my bidding motivations very close to the vest. ;)

99% of the 'value' of this auction is because of us, period. If this site didn't exist, these books would sell for $5-$10, tops.

We, ladies and gentlemen....well....gentlemen, at least....have created the hype.

Not that that's a *bad* thing....just acknowledging a truth.

INTERESTING as in good and bad! So much for the cheap valiants and if you are looking to move some, March and April will be prime times. Late August and Early September look good also as many college students get that tuition check!

I don't think this auction would have even ended at 464 if Greg hadn't recently bumped the price up on this book?!? As he said earlier, we'll probably get a better idea on its true value once these get distributed (If they do) or others start coming out of the woodwork. One already surfaced for trade on the boards.

I believe it was known that Dan and I were the only two board members to have one of these in our possession. My copy was up for trade, but no new copies have surfaced.

i definitely do not have one.Never even knew about it.. it must be a rarity.

ill be bidding too at the end and if I get em, they will all be cgced...what do u think a 9.8 will go for? 9.6? he does claiim to be MINT.
What do you think the print run for this issue is? Beats me but it must is causing a stir in the Valiant world.

This book came out in 2002. Regardless of what this auction goes for, I'm positive that a crapload of these are still out there, & in the long run this book will go way down in price & demand.
Acclaim put alot of money into the Evolution game, which failed terribly for them, so there has to have been alot made that weren't sold. They must be out there in EB store bargain bins somewhere.

I wonder where this seller found ten of them? Anyway, to check the V2 Inventory List, you wouldn't think there was enough interest for these to justify the huge price...---Steve
