For 10 cents I would have just picked up the Harby #3 with or without the coupon. Poor little Harby, just waiting for a good home.

Yes, i'm telling the truth...one of those 1 in 1,000,000 type tales. What did i pay?? I was 12, nothing

she wanted to get rid of her deceased husbands "magazines"

and had me take what I wanted.

Of course, I didn't really understand the significance of my find, even though I did know it was Bats 1st book.

It was CGC graded 4 years ago a 5.5..but hell, i'll take it anyway

I have more stories, but why depress the mood in here tonight

Before anyone poo poos my little victory, let me say I know there are no "Grails" here but all this for just over $10.00 bucks!?? And I get to feel great for saving some really nice Valiants from a nasty end! Notice the signature on the A+A #1. I belive it's Bob Layton, and the receipt includes three new books at $2.95 each so all the Valiants come to a whopping $12.00!!!!
Thanks Bodda and SOTU for making me feel guilty enough to dig through the bins!!!! Let me know what you think.

That indeed is a sweet find, I've always wished I could find a stash like that in an older relative's home or at some estate sale. The even more incredible thing for me is that you kept that book all that time. I probably would have been tempted to sell it 50 times in the amount of time you held onto that.

Know what, I tried selling it TWICE, once at 19, the other at 21. Was entering law school, and thought I would need the money for books and females

For whatever reason, I never sold it..one guy offered me $12,000 the other time I believe $15,000

But I was no fool, i knew what it was and wasn't going to give it away cheap.

I remember asking one guy on Long Island, NY that offered me the $15,000 for it for "$25,000 and we have a deal"

he said no, and I walked...good move me, bad move him

I also almost did this with my complete X-Men run 1-200 as well...

but again, the gods were looking down on me...man what a fiscal bath I would have taken on those transactions

Anyway, nice find in that store, those experiences are always fun and rewarding...

My dad died when I was 3 and when my grandmother passed a few years ago I got some of his stuff she had saved all those years. A Superman, 2 Batman and an Archie all from 1958. They're still in pretty good shape. Just left in a box of memorabilia for 40 years. I wouldn't ever sell em though. It's one of the few connections I have to him!

I decided to check out a new store today in Scottsdale. It is called Retro Rocket and I think they also sell on eBay under that name. While I was there this old guy come in to sell some books. They were Fantasic Four 1 to 100 and the first 6 annuals. He was the original owner and the first 35 issues all had the main characters cut out of the covers as he said he would put them up on his walls when he was a kid. The Silver Surfer issues and Galactis issues were in amazing condition and get this, they were in just regular bags an no boards. I don't think the guy knew what they were worth today and you just know that the owner is gonna take him for a ride.

This was the first time I have ever seen books of this age still in the original owners hands. It was really amazing to see them.

Once again, try to keep the laughter to a minimum....

I got Young Men in the mail yesterday! Issue #27, death of the Red Skull! It was advertised to be in Fine- condition, but is closer to F/VF. It not for some tiny odd tears on the spine, it would REALLY be high grade! The cover is flat, clean and glossy, the pages are off-white, clean staples, only one spine crease about 1/16 of an inch..... a sweet deal on a really cool book!!

For the record, the tears are tiny, slightly larger than staple holes, I don't have any idea what would have made them, much less made them so neatly. They are only on the cover and no damage is evident to the page beneath. You don't even notice them without a close inspection .

I'm trying to pull together a nice collection of what I call "The Aborted Silver Age" books from Timely. They were Men's Adventures #27 & 28 and Young Men #24-28. Let me know if you can help!!!

Actually, I was there picking up books for a fellow collector (he knows who he is!), and I remembered your post, so I bought the poor, lonely book so it didn't have to suffer in the cold, dark basement with the other misfit 10 cent books!
