OFFICIAL Sign Up for the Dead Universe Cover Scan Project...
OK, here is your chance to step up to the plate and take on a cover scanning project so that we can start building upon the DU section.
It is easy enough, you post what DU you would like to work on, or titles you would like to work on, I will put you down on the list and then hold your feet to the fire to stay on target and do us proud !!!!
1. Smashey - New Universe
2. Chiclo - Comics Greatest Universe
3. Elveen - Broadway
4. Knightt - Bravura & Malibu (Genesis)
5.
6.

Chris,
we might need people to sign up even if they dont have complete sets & add the required ones after as there might not be anyone adding their names after smashey
Im sure all the Du's are complete amongst the board members but that doesnt mean they will participate so we might need to go for almost complete and see what happens.
What do you think?

Definately. Maybe if someone grabs Ultraverse for example. Scan what ya can. And post a needs list for whatever is left. Im sure we can all chip in and complete it. Then people could just send the person doig Malibu the link so they can add it.I think Co-operative scans are not a bad idea, especially in terms of getting RARE books scanned.
Also, if no one else is against it, CCL has TONS of images. He ok'ed me to go ahead and use em as long as his website is just mentioned in the post as to where they came from. Can save LOTS of time.
If anyone needs any help with anything, just let me know. Thing is, I dont have a scanner.....I can provide moral support though!!

I'll do Milestone, but I may need some help with some of the rare issues. Also, what size do we want the scans to be?

I've been using the same size as VC.com and that is 453x700@250 dpiLightning Strike wrote:I'll do Milestone, but I may need some help with some of the rare issues. Also, what size do we want the scans to be?

You know thats a really good question.
If we are only including DU's that are all of the same universe then no.
However to some degree there are quite a few that don't necessarily fit the bill, but have a few titles that do share a continuity.
Besides Comico had the best cover design of the 80's by far IMO so i would love to scan them all and then own them all too.

I think we need to quantify what constitutes a DU and what doesn't. And even after that, we should still be able to discuss a book that's dead, even if it wasn't part of a stable of other books that made up an entire universe.TKWill wrote:Is Comico back on the DU List? Simple definitions:
1. A universe of shared characters and incidents.
2. Anything under the same publisher.
There are obvious problems with this. I think that a better alternative might be:
3. anything under one publisher which is a universe of shared characters and incidents. Examples would be "Legend" from Dark Horse, which now lives on only with Hellboy and not with the imprint, as I recall.
In fact, there is the dilema. Do IMPRINTS count? Should things like Windjammer and Armada count? Do we only count them under one publisher or under two? Anybody have any other thoughts? I'm just tossing out ideas to get some discussion going, here.

Its kinda being covered here as well so if we continue it over there it might help and leave this as the actual sign up.

I think they should be divided by imprint. Many publishers use imprints to separate their Universes. Malibu with it's Bravura and Ultraverse, DC Milestone and so on.xodacia81 wrote:Simple definitions:

I think that the idea is that it would be "ours" - 100%.mrwoogieman wrote:Would there be a bandwidth problem trying to archive a ton of scans for all these DUs?
What about a link to the Mile High database for the particular publisher with fill in scans for the ones that are either lacking scans or are not listed as existing?

I would rather 'link' to what 'we' have done and I have PM'ed with Greg about this, we can work something out. I am not fond of linking to others work right now and besides, we would have to get MileHighs permission AND have the free advertising for them.mrwoogieman wrote:Would there be a bandwidth problem trying to archive a ton of scans for all these DUs?

My plan is to have all original scans.
