This is great news! Hopefully this puts some $$$ into VEI and helps bring the comics about even quicker!

A lot of people were *SQUEE* when Bay was announced for Transformers, and that become a hit that was respectful to the source material. We should just be happy a director with clout is attatched at this point, it will only cause more attention.

cheers! :thumb:

So, Elfman or Williams for the theme?

Not based on Superman Returns. Dang, that movie sucked balls. And I wasn't really impressed with his X-Men work either. It just seemed kind of bland to me.

To each his own I guess.

I thought Bryan did a great job in X1 and X2.

As far as Superman Returns, there were certain aspects of the movie I did not care for, but overall he stayed true to the spirit of the Christopher Reeves movies.

Reminds me of Spawn the movie...

Ok, I am missing something here... Why does it look like we are comparing Harbinger to X-Men? Or is it just me?

The comparison seems to be based on the fact that Ratner directed X3, which some people didn't like.

Yeah, it wasn't a comparison of X-Men and Harbinger. It was a discussion of Ratner and Singer's directing skills. They both just happened to direct X-Men movies.

Congrats to VEI on this one.

On a separate note, I will be keeping an eye out to see when and if Newsarama makes mention of any of today's VEI-related news items.

very nice. Thanks MoTA. And hopefully this can put to rest concerns about newsarama's VEI coverage.

:D A front page in depth article would be great once there is more concrete news on new releases (when and whom)

I'm excited.

And frankly, Ratner gets it done. He was given a locked script and virtually zero time & additional budget to complete X3 once Singer dropped out. And frankly, X3--flawed as it was, was better than both Superman Returns & Spiderman 3.

Moreover, I enjoyed the Rush Hour movies and think he showed great range w/ both Red Dragon & Family Man.

This can only be a good thing for raising Valiant awareness & jumpstarting the comics.

thankfully, harbinger isnt as important to me as some other titles, so ratner doesnt worry me too much, although i greatly disliked x3. still, i hope its great.

I would love to see hayden christianson as sting and the guy that played the old hand boss in the elektra movie (he has also been in planet of the apes as a monkey, the mortal combat movie) as harada!

Could someone explain to me what "young Blade Runner" means? I admit, that is going right over my head.

I haven't seen BR in over a decade, so I don't see the connections.

I just hope they're not planning to set Harbinger "in the nearby future" or something like that.

Didn't Jim state somewhere that his intention for Harbinger was to do the "anti X-Men"? That's why I'm opposed to any big director of spectacle or big composer like Williams or Elfman. It should be a more rough and ready, handheld, indie-type of film, depicting the kids on the road, who just happen to have superpowers. Sure, there can be big FX and action, but they shouldn't lose sight of what makes this property unique, and not just let it turn into an X-clone - keep the youthful tone and voice, and renegade aesthetic. That's why I'd much prefer Alfonso Cuaron. "Y Tu Mama Tambien" had road trips, young people, and even bisexuality for Pete. ;)

While I whole-heartedly agree that Brian Singer would be my first choice of directors, Ratner isn't a complete rat of a director. I DID like his take on "After the Sunset", which happened to showcase Salma's ample talents. :P

I just have a simple question....

Why is VEI putting so much behind Harbinger to be the flagship for valiants come back? It was the first HC, now movie rumors, etc.

I would think they'd wanna build back the/a universe, but already seems like they're putting all thier eggs in one basket with harbinger already!

Rai / Harbinger / XO / Shadowman were the original titles that Valiant created. Solar and Magnus are probably still being negotiated since they were not original creations.

Rai is a book set in the future.

XO would be too much like Iron Man and since that movie is coming out i would wait. Although the way the venom outfit looked in SM3 I cannot wait to see what XO would look like.

Shadowman and Harbinger are left and Harbinger would be more of a base for the universe.

Yeah, what does that mean? Only thing I can see is that both are about a new species trying to find its place in the world and understand its creation. I would expect something more for such a statement.
