On the second comment at http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6908 the author says he's never heard of the comic series. Multiply that by how many millions of people who will hear of Harbinger and Valiant Entertainment because of this movie being optioned?!?Zool wrote:Yeah, just read this on Superherohype.com.
I dislike Ratner, but the added buzz this will bring the comics has to be good news.

They announced it in Variety last night...great stuff!
Here's my two cents:

Good news, but a couple of notes of caution:
1. We are well before any greenlight stage, so development hell may yet beckon
2. Ratner had many opportunities to do so much more with X3 but instead turned in a pretty average result (marginally better than 1 in some ways, but not as good as 2 in my view), so I am cautiously optimistic about him being linked to this.

Good points. Still, great exposure for Valiant Entertainment and Harbinger even if the movie doesn't come about. I'm believing it will, though.leonmallett wrote:Good news, but a couple of notes of caution:

The idea seems very timely in a post X-Men movies and especially pos-Heroes telly series era.StarBrand wrote:Good points. However, to stand strongly against perceptions of viewers of Heroes but not having awareness or knowledge of the Harbinger book and concepts in particular, may be tricky in terms of making the movie stand out.

Within hours I was logged in to register my dismay![/CBG]
Ratner is the epitome of "subpar". I think his picture is next to the word in the dictionary. While I'm happy it's being considered for film treatment, Harbinger is my favorite Valiant book and I'd want to see it in better hands. Also, it can't be done the way an X-film was - it should be more loose, something more experimental and rough around the edges, since they were on the run. Something with a young point of view, not all about FX and hamhanded dialogue. I'd prefer to see someone like Alfonso Cuaron ("Y Tu Mama Tambien" and Harry Potter) do it.

I also see this as a double edge sword. Releasing a Harbinger movie will definitely help with the exposure. However, there is a chance that the franchise might go down the drain being directed by Brett Ratner due to his past performance. Let's just say I was extremely disappointed with his take on X3. There was absolutely no character development and he tends to like killing off characters constantly...

Great news...so when do the new comics start?
This is incredible. Something as a Valiant fan I've dreamed of for years...now I just want to know when the new series will debut? Hopefully Eternal Warrior (as a comic) won't be far behind!!

As long as he doesn't kill off my favorite character, Torque, it will be fine!Escaflown4 wrote:I also see this as a double edge sword. Yeah, after what he did with Last Stand I was thinking the same. Brian Singer may have been a better choice.Escaflown4 wrote:I also see this as a double edge sword. In the comments under that are a good indicator of what others outside of us, the valiant diehards, think. It's good to read that stuff as we all know we will be the most critical of EVERYTHING that this info brings.
Funniest one is someone saying they wished there would be a 'Visitor movie'...

I don't know who should direct it but Rattner is at least a better choice than Joel Caca-maker or UGH Bolle. Still, this is early so perhaps they could find a better director. I don't think Cuaron would do a good job with it, maybe someone that isn't accustomed to doing this genre should be in charge. I think it could work, being that Harbinger was about as far removed from "typical" superhero team books as it got back then.

I would choose Brian Singer if given the option as the first Harbinger movie will need some serious character development to jump start the franchise. I can already imagine Ratner just throwing the characters in rampant carnage and killing them nonstop and call it a movie. That my friends...will be the end of Harbinger.xodacia81 wrote:I don't know who should direct it but Rattner is at least a better choice than Joel Caca-maker or UGH Bolle.
