New Universe question:
So... all of you Deadites that HAVE read the old New Universe 'stuff', how does the new material stand up ? I still need to finish NewUniversal but what I have read so far is rather impressive but 'how does the new material stand up against the old material ?
Do you like it ?
Do you hate it ?
Compare the old material with the old material... discuss.

Isn't that 'the Marvel way' these days ? It started with Greg Land literally copying poses and faces from stardom and porn (not that I don't consider porn in the same catagory as stardom hehehe)siren3-4 wrote:I think if you go in with an open mind you will like it . . .
It's different but well done . . .
also get your head set for the characters to look like actual movie stars

I haven't completed the first Newuniversal mini yet (think I still need #6), but now that I have read the entire original line of New Universe comics, I can safely say I prefer the original. Some of the titles (DP 7 particularly) is pretty darn close to being on the same par as pre-Unity VALIANT, in my opinion.

Is DP 7 that good. I can get the first few issues, maybe up to #10 or so, for .25 each.
Good read?

DP7 is great! Them and Psi-Force both were my favorite team books of the New U. You can definatly feel Shooter's work just like the early Valiant stuff. Good stories, and a 'real world' feel that goes out the window after a bit with all the super stuff that goes on. But very good reads anyway.Elveen wrote:Brother J wrote:I haven't completed the first Newuniversal mini yet (think I still need #6), but now that I have read the entire original line of New Universe comics, I can safely say I prefer the original. I have the new stuff but haven't read them yet (I'm waaaaay behind on my reading). Re: New Universe question:
After the first couple issues I got bored and dropped it on issue 5. The story seemed pretty generic and just didn't interest me. Good art though.Knightt wrote:So... all of you Deadites that HAVE read the old New Universe 'stuff', how does the new material stand up ? Comparing to the old stuff is hard. Series rise and fall on their own, no need to compare them to others. Some of the old stuff was far worse, some of it far better. I do think they switched out the original concepts for Star Brand and Nightmask for stuff that is far less interesting and engaging (though the asian chick is cute atleast). The explaination for the white event is disappointingly pretty typical.
NEWUNIVERSAL:SHOCKFRONT #1 is set to hit comic stores May 14th. It will feature scripts by Warren Ellis, Pencils by Steve Kurth, and a cover by Brandon Peterson. Newuniversal:Shockfront will run 6 issues.Brother J wrote:#6 was the last issue, but there's supposed to be more on the way soon. I assume it will be a new mini with the numbering reverting back to #1.Knightt wrote:Does anyone have any extra 'NewUniversal' books laying around ? I 'think' that I am missing the latter issues. How high did these go up to ?

A few weeks ago, I snagged the 1st issue of this series but had not read it, until this morning when I was unable to get back to sleep. Well, the verdict is in and...I want to read more. It's got some interesting things going on, the art is nice and being vaguely familiar with the orignal but not overly so, I can appreciate this for what it is rather than just comparing it to the older version. Grade for issue # 1: A-.
The first newuniversal one-shot coming in July.
newuniversal: 1959
Written by KIERON GILLEN
Penciled by GREG SCOTT
Cover by BRANDON PETERSON
This is a story about killing the future. 1959 is the dawn of the new age of superheroics—the so-called “Fireworks” have granted superhuman powers to three Americans, and set the world on a collision-course with destiny. But it’s a destiny Philip Voight must prevent at any cost. The first newuniversal one-shot expands the mythos of this world, thanks to writer KIERON GILLEN (Phonogram), hand-picked by newuniversal’s Warren Ellis, and the brilliant art of GREG SCOTT shows us the world, like it never was…in 1959.
48 PGS./Parental Advisory …$3.99

Ahh ha... this is perhaps about the guy who killed the superhuman baby. A very interesting character and no doubt interesting story. I look forward to reading this.StarBrand wrote:The first newuniversal one-shot coming in July.
