Could be...I don't remember when this board was curse...er, blessed with my presence at first....I don't even remember how or why I stumbled onto it in the first place...leonmallett wrote:Is that a sign of aging - your memory failing?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:I've been a member since 2002....maybe 2001?
I don't remember now.
It MAY have been all Petrilak's fault....
So, yeah, now we have something ELSE to blame him for.

In all seriousness . . . I have never seen anyone on this board ever use the word noob seriously . . .Draco wrote:Maybe not but this whole noob thing just pi ss es me off quite frankly.Drift wrote:There will be no exposing of NOBs in public thankyou very much.
Its so derogatory and insulting.
Sure i understand the origins of it all but i see is people using it in an insulting fashion way too often and it needs to stop.
I will admit also seeing it used in jokey fashion and i might have my wires crossed when two people might make a joke between themselves and misread it granted.
However when someone who thinks its funny to simply throw it around like they have some exclusive right to something over someone else it irks me.
why would you want to make someone feel uncomfortable about the fact that they havent been around a particular place as long as yourself.
When really you should be using that energy to instead welcome them and make them feel wanted.
Its sad and immature and it needs to stop.
Should i insult and belittle everyone i meet who has collected comics for a lesser amount of time than myself.
No i shouldnt and no i dont.
Instead i leave the patronizing tones well alone and instead take the time to either welcome them to this fine medium or educate them accordingly sharing my wealth of knowledge where possible.
This is not aimed at the guys who i have seen offer new members nice bits like the recent gold editions etc.
Thats all cool and i think its exactly what is required of the seasoned campaigners to welcome the new folks.
So let me say it once more for those who abuse their position.
Knock that sh it on the head as its not big and its not clever.
Nuff said.

Is this carryover from another board ???

(look, it's the asian guy with glasses!)
I never knock noobs around, because you never know where someone's from and what they know. We've had quite a few people over here from the CGC and comicsoverpriceguide.com here, who are posters with several thousand posts.
The only time I personally have a problem with noobs is when they try to horn in on issues specifically exclusive to this particular community, without having first taken the time to become part of the group (like getting involved in long standing feuds, or griping because they don't understand a particular inside joke, or trying to get in on a board "exclusive.") <---(I wonder if that punctuation is correct.

I, personally love anyone who has something to contribute. I rather like our recent noobs, especially Wallywest, Smashey, and Draco. When Siren3-4 was a noob, he was a firecracker, and come on...who doesn't love Siren3-4?
We're all noobs at some point, so being elitist and snobby about how much time you've been here just reveals your OWN character flaws, and makes people not want to be around you.
My only deal? If you want to be a member, have an avatar. I don't know why, probably because I'm a visual guy, but I relate people to their avatars. If you don't have an avatar, it seems like you're not really a member of the group (the more clever among us will put two and two together as it relates to me.

And Draco...seriously, dude, this is one of the LEAST elitist boards, and one of the most welcoming, on the 'net.

Generally, if a noob steps out of line, he's gently corrected, or ignored, not insulted to smithereens.
(And what, exactly, IS a "smithereen"? Is it Waylon Smither's back up singers....?)

Well i could have said something less testy on my 333rd post too.
Oh well.
Im calm now.
No really.
Thanks for the cool words though dude.
There have been enough times when i have read silly jibes at people for the wrong reasons (normally noob nonsense) hence my rant.
Im not even saying it was directed at me but i dont like anyone to feel unwelcome anywhere and its IMO very unwelcoming to receive or read.
I do find humour and sarcasm dont carry very well onto text so sometimes its easy to get the wrong impression i will happily admit.
I like to think i have a great sense of humour even if a bit dark & twisted at times so i can laugh most things off.
I dont think its particularly widespread here but it definitely exists just like anywhere else.
Im not new to comics and im not new to Valiant having pre ordered it all when it was first solicited as a retailer and collector.
I am new to this site though ( 3 months if that) and have on too many occasions been put off by unnecessary comments for which most were of the noob kind.
I must say though overall i have found the general conversation and the people here (and over at lyria and now Ryans site too) to be mostly cool and so much better than anywhere else i have visited.
This is the first place i ever visited worth staying in over ten years of internet access, so maybe thats why i find it annoying when it does pop up as i want to belong here as its really is the coolest place to chat comics and more to the point Valiant comics.
So im gonna take a chill pill and pay no mind to anything that looks like an undeserved derogatory comment and instead let karma do its thang !!
Be cool and ill try to be too.
Peace
Ian

I think that this site is the only location on the internet where those particular words have been assembled together.depluto wrote:I googled that phrase and got two hits.
