Oh! THOSE dark Ages!!! No, I guess not. Sorry, I didn't have a good definition for 'Dark Ages'. So, per your definition when did the Dark Ages start, and are we still in them? If not, when did we end. Can we say that the renaissance has started now then?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Sooooo....you DIDN'T collect during the Dark Ages, and therefore don't HAVE any stories from that period......Phoenix8008 wrote:
When Birthquake came though, I just didn't have the money to continue and the stories just weren't as great anymore. I still loved the old stuff though and really was heartbroken when I lost my whole collection years ago during a move. So now I'm back trying to get the whole of VH1 from quarter bins before paying more to fill in the remaining holes.
EDIT- Okay, I'll finish reading the thread next time before posting a response to your response. Saw that you later defined the time period later in the thread. Sorry. I'll shut up now.

I was a sporadic collector of Valiant in the early 90s. I stopped collecting comics when I went to high school for a few years, but eventually started again. I dug out the Valiants i had and grew frustrated that I had soooo many holes in the titles i collected. So I then began seeking out to fill the runs. I finished Shadowman and Ninjak, and have some complete stories from X-O and Bloodshot. I was scrounging around any comic store I'd come across. Depending on the store, I would either pay $1 a book or some were $5 - $10 (Shadowman #43).

How about the time when I won a near complete set of VH1 and VH2 on eBay in Dec, 1999 for less than $1000...?

I found out about Valiant during Unity and stayed pretty much with the company until the Acclaim buyout and I only collected a few titles from the VH 2 era Trinity Angels, Darque Passages, Solar: Hell on Earth, and Unity 2000 when I was forced to move I had to sell all my Valiant comics (except Unity 2000 because I'm a BIG time Jim Starlin fan).

It was indeed. But then, 1982-1990 was a pretty sparse period for Thanos, too, showing up only in the Warlock and Captain Marvel reprints of 1983, between Death of Cap Marvel and Surfer #34.Chiclo wrote:I bought maybe 5 comics during the "Dark Ages". Maybe a few more.
Mostly wanting to rebuild my books featuring Thanos.
That was a pretty sparse period for Thanos.

So you sold 75% of your Valiant collection a year ago or so?

Re: Collecting in the Dark Ages...
Two years ago, along with most of my silver age collection. I needed to raise some money because my wife and I were going to adopt a baby. Two months after selling my comics and raising almost $4,000 I got got very sick, lost 50 lbs., was in and out of the hospital and (long story short) ended up not adopting.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Gotcha.Lightning Strike wrote:yepZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Were you buying and looking for Valiants from 1992-2008?Lightning Strike wrote:I thought what I posted was clearly an answer to your questionZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Lightning Strike wrote: I was there from the early days (my first Valiant issue was the Harby pink), and collected them almost to the end. No one read a thing I wrote.Your post was unclear, and you can understand the confusion with all the yahoos posting "yeah, I quit buying any Valiants from 1994-2006, man. Sweet pot, man!"
So you sold 75% of your Valiant collection a year ago or so?

So, I decided to try and rebuild my collection and have been doing so over the last year.

My first Valiant book was Archer and Armstrong 0, I was hooked. I grabbed every book I could find and paid way too much for most of them. When the prices started dropping I added a few extras when I could find the key books.
I kept buying the new books through Turok Evolution so I guess I stuck with it through the dark ages. The only series I didn't buy off the stand was N.I.O. (and I still need 2-4). I started picking up back issues again on the cheap in the early 2000's.

Technically, until the publication of Harbinger: The Beginning, it was still the dark ages....(and maybe still is.)
Were you looking for and buying Valiants in 1994? 1995? 1996? 1997? 1998? 1999? 2000? 2001? 2002? 2003? 2004? 2005? 2006? 2007? 2008?Me wrote:One summer early 2000 I dediced to check out a LCS to see if they had any Vals. I was. Greg was. Zero was. Every single one of those years. Anybody else?
I'm asking for people who NEVER STOPPED ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR AND BUYING VALIANTS, EVER.

I didn't know this was such a complex concept.
