Since issue 0 came out today I thought I'd start a thread for it since several people were interested in the series (and so not derail The Twelve thread completely). It's a very good deal with over 28 pages (plus a bit of art in the back) for $1.

However, I've got to say I was personally majorly disappointed (especially in the writing). Beginnings are always tough to do so maybe this issue isn't represenative of the rest of the (full priced) series but just reading issue 0, I don't think this one's my cup of tea

I was impressed at the size of the issue for $1.

I'm going to pick up probably the first few issues of this series at least. There is room for improvement, and I hope they can capitalize on it.

Loved the $1 price tag. Comparatively speaking to other comics in the market today you got a whole lot of book for $1.

Story-wise, no where near as interesting as 'The Twelve' is, but I'll definitely stick around for a few issues. I'm more 'passively' looking forward to the next issue more than anything.

As far as art is concerned, I liked it. I'm a fan of Ross and the periodical use of his painted style throughout in addition to the regular comic style was definitely appreciated.

The Twelve is in my pile awaiting reading, but I have to say I enjoyed this. I felt the large cast offers a barrier to the story in some ways, as did some of my preconceptions of who was who amongst them and the type of character/origins of some, but that didn't put me off, and I look forward to re-reading this today or tomorrow.

And a panel inside, as well as a couple of character pieces.

It's scripted by Krueger, right? He's usually pretty amazing: grand epic takes, metaphysics, etc. What's this bad boy supposed to run? 12 issues?

Not sure but I think the hope is that it will lead into an ongoing series.

After reading it, I was sure that they'd just stuck Ross with some random guy in the office, not a writer. My jaw dropped when I saw this was the same guy who co-wrote Justice with Ross (the writing wasn't perfect but I did enjoy the hell out of that series). I don't know what happened here. I guess every creative team has their odd days.

I think the problem with the book was that they had a hard time re-establishing the dormant heroes who had been missing for 60 + years. They also needed to set up a continuity which obliterated the Alan Moore Terra Obscura Universe.

It did come off as kind of hokey but I think that they'll get plenty of milage out of the "man out of time" schtick. It's just that they'll get to it in issue two instead of right off the bat like "The Twelve". I laos think the use of Pandora's Box was pretty original in a genre with very few original ideas left.

They did all the "X" series (Earth-X, Universe-X, etc.) together, as well, no? And Kruegger wrote the VH-2 REVELATIONS special. I like his stuff. Pity that this fell short in your estimation.

Re-reading the book last night, I think on second reading it was even better, and I echo billypilgrim in liking the use of Pandora's Box as the device to further the basic premise. That last page with the heroes hanging in limbo was pretty haunting in my view. Shame it is only going to be six issues.

I just read issue #0 & #1 last night and I liked it, will stick around all the way through most likely :thumb:
I really like when companies bring back heroes from days long past & try to put a modern spin on them like Malibu did a few years back with Protectors, Gravestone & the like
I picked up all the issues of the Twelve yesterday also & will give this one a try too (Even after vowing off purchasing new books because of the price & just sticking to buying DU stuff I find the urge to purchase new again  ). Oh well 2 books a month shouldn't put me in the poor house
(Do they even have poor houses anymore, I believe they existed during the Depression didn't they)?
