Y: Why?

Post by riftt »

Why do people like this book? I picked up the first tpb and it was horrible. Cool concept, terrible execution. Seemed as though the writer's knowledge of politics was limited to a few west wing episodes. Any reason why this book is so popular?

What book? I have no idea what you are posting about? Got a lazy link? I've kinda been out of the loop for a bit...

You surprised me....I think yours is the first negative comment I've read about "Y The Last Man". Like you, it surprises me, and that's one of the things I like about it. It is hard to predict what is going to happen next. More often than not, I'll turn the page at a critical point in the story, and end up saying "Didn't see that coming!". Also, once you accept the basic premise, it is written in a realistic style that I find refreshing. So much of super hero and sci-fi themed comics are pretty far fetched, and the realism is a nice change. It also has a certain sense of humor running through it that I like. I think it is better written than your average comic book. Your points about the political tone of the book do ring somewhat true, but I think that is primarily due to the fact that most of the story involves only a few people, so it's slanted toward their world view. Just my two cents worth. I'm curious, since you were not impressed with "Y The Last Man", what do you like?
