The 99 Event, VH 2 Style
So, according to some info that's been shared by some, here and on the old mailing list, one aspect of the 99 event as planned by Nicieza was to have readers choose their favorite characters from both universes to form a "VH 3" of sorts that would be a combination of the "best aspects" of both universes.
That implies that at the end of the event the plan was to have a "unified" VALIANT Universe.
Yet, another aspect gleamed throughout the various VH 2 books was that at some point in 99 various objects from the future would be scattered over time, like Donovan's X-O Manowar and the gilded crown from the Master Darque one shot.
How do both ideas mix with each other?
Wouldn't a unified universe have a consistant past that would be neither VH 2 or VH 1?
Or would the unified universe's past have been the individual pasts of two different universes, and what happened is that the objects sent back through time were only sent along the VH 2 timeline?
That implies that at the end of the event the plan was to have a "unified" VALIANT Universe.

Maybe someday I'll consider selling those Previews with the Starting Over serial, or my copy of Concrete Jungle.
I'm sure some VH 2 fans would pay well for them.

Some don't have to.ManofTheAtom wrote:Maybe someday I'll consider selling those Previews with the Starting Over serial, or my copy of Concrete Jungle.

In all seriousness, I wish Acclaim had returned the artwork to Steven Butler. I'd like to own the Bloodshot one.

Has anyone ever had any conversations with Nicieza on his plans for the 1999 event? I remember I had a few e-mail exchanges with him back when VH-2 was winding down and he was pretty upset about the whole thing going belly up. I remember I sent him a pretty impassioned e-mail about how much I cared about the company and he responded with a long e-mail that ended with "Thanks for giving a damn." Wish I had saved it...

BOH can tell you about Nicieza's 99 poll idea, heh.TDarke wrote:Has anyone ever had any conversations with Nicieza on his plans for the 1999 event? There's this book called Story about how to write good screenplays (and stories in general). One chapter has a passage that basically says that once you come up with an idea for a specific character, you can't go and apply it to another character.BloodOfHeroes wrote:Fabe's playing it smart now. Acclaim's pulling the plug affected the lives of many good people.
Plus, he might someday be able to use the concept, if not all the details. Let's just call it "selective amnesia," shall we?

I see a lot of comic book writers say "well, I came up with this idea for >blank<, but since I couldn't use it on >blank< I'm using it on >double blank<.
That's why we get a LOT of crappy stories from these hacks.
Anyway, hopefully Nicieza's chance to use his poll idea won't happen at VALIANT and he can use it elsewhere, like maybe DC where it would fit better.
Have DC readers vote for their favorite Superman out of the 52 contenders they have.

Sure...WATCHMEN was intended for the old MLJ characters first. Then Charleston's line-up.
I've heard that BATMAN: THE CULT was first proposed with Captain "Shazam!" Marvel, instead'a Bats.
The sequel for BATMAN: THE CULT became a Punisher tale.
NIGHT MAN became the hero and tales Englehart couldn't tell in SHADOWMAN...
So it happens more than you think.
Besides, Robert A. Heinlein proposed that there are only three basic plot structures. So how hard would it be to substitute one character for another? Not at all, looking at the above examples.

Heh, I think it was Peter David who said that there are five original ideas in comics.BloodOfHeroes wrote:Sure...WATCHMEN was intended for the old MLJ characters first. Then Charleston's line-up.
