Dead Universe print runs
I love the price guide here for valiant and acclaim how it tells the print runs, so i know which issues are rare, which are common. I have searched and searched, to find anything really about other publishers. Anyone know where to find anything, if there even is for crossgen, image, etc?

Actually, I think you're right when it comes to Broadway. They came out right at the end of the comic boom, so the print runs are miniscule, especially the later issues.Elveen wrote:Good question.
Of all the DUs that I collect (Val/Acc, Def., Broad., Crossgen, Elementals [Comico]), I probably see Braodway the least. But there are not that many total issues so that might be the reason.

So then the question is.... why are they not valuable? Desirability? Do most people not even know what they are?Brother J wrote:Actually, I think you're right when it comes to Broadway. I admit I have not read a Broadway book (yet)...... but I have thumbed through one.... looked interesting.
It is a Shooter Uni.
what do you think the print runs are?

The only Broadway print run I've ever heard anything about is Miracle on Broadway an that was 500.
That is a considerably smaller print run than the other books produced by that company, but by what margin? 10 to 1? 100 to 1?
This is just idle speculation on my part. I don't have any informed insight.

If something is rare, shouldn't it be valuable?

If there are only 500 copies of something, but only 200 want to own one,
what should the value be?
Supply and demand. Tiny supply can't overcome tinier demand.
That's not to say that demand won't change... but if something isn't valuable,
it's likely that the supply (no matter how small) is greater than demand.

THAT is what it will always boil down to.Cyberstrike wrote:Some of what a book's value is determined by what a buyer is willing to
pay for it.
Case in point. The Valiant Zombies ashcans that I did have a VERY low print run but if nobody gives a $hit about the ashcan, even though it is VERY VERY rare... it is still pretty much worthless.
Just because something has a low print run or is a pretty rare item does not give it value.
"WHOOO this has a print run of 700."
So what.
But to someone else who wants one, they might be willing to pay a large sum of money for it.
If Britney Spears farted into a plastic bag and someone offered it to me to $50, I'd tell him to take a hike... yet, the very same item sold on Ebay a year or so ago for over $800.
One man's garbage... another man's treasure.
Broadway books ? Yep, sure thing... low print run but so what. The books are worthless. If they were worth anything, I would think that the company would be around today and honestly, I love some of Shooter's work but I feel that his brilliance peaked at the pre-Unity books because I have been far from being impressed with Defiant or Broadway. He blew his wad on Valiant but man, it was a wad of Peter North proportions !!!

I think Defiant failure had more to do with Marvel's lawsuit than the quality of their books.Knightt wrote:THAT is what it will always boil down to.Cyberstrike wrote:Some of what a book's value is determined by what a buyer is willing to

Honestly if I had to choose between the Pre-Unity Valiant and Defiant
I will choose Defiant every time over.
The reason I prefer Defiant over Pre-Unity Valiant due to it having more original concepts i.e. not using Magnus, Solar, and Turok to build a universe around and not having any licence titles like the Nintendo and WWF books.
I also found the Defiant Universe more intriguing and interesting than Valiant Universe.
Now as far as Broadway is concerned it's Defiant 1.5 IMHO.
There were some great concepts but the Broadway Universe stories were drug out longer than they should and some of their titles were not the greatest Powers That Be, Shadow State, and Knights on Broadway didn't tell you squat about the book. The only thing that I remember
about Broadway is that Fatalie had some of JG Jones' earliest art.

Besides I don't have the room, money, or energy to hoard much of anything anymore.
