I think you are forgetting Accliams influence on the direction of the books. Acclaim was using the comics as advertizing fodder for video games and the traditional characters didn't work in a video game format.ManofTheAtom wrote:You mean VALIANT's architect and a penciller known mostly for his indy work? No, they wouldn't be horrible choices.Ryan wrote:yeah Jim Shooter and David Lapham would be horrible choices to work on VALIANTManofTheAtom wrote:Of course it would, because last time DC and Marvel's talent pool worked at VALIANT, it worked SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO well for them.
The rest of the talent pool, the fanboys who grew up with 1960's DC *SQUEE* comics would. They already *SQUEE* VALIANT up a decade ago, WHY do you want them to do it again?
What makes you think they won't do now what they did back then?
You are generalizing the downfall of Acclaim comics on Fabian (who holds his share of the blame) and letting Acclaim (who holds most of the blame) off the hook.
I think I speak for most of us when I say we would love for lightning to strike twice and the original Valiant Universe to return, as it was...perfect in our minds eye and not at all deviate from what we all loved best.
But that Valiant didn't survive and there were a multitude of reasons for that. Expectations will ultimately buckle under the reality that we can't go home again. So lets go forward instead.

It's not that I'm forgetting, it's that my definition of VALIANT's downfall has nothing to do with ownership, but with content.I think you are forgetting Accliams influence on the direction of the books. No matter how bad things had gotten with Acclaim before Nicieza, as long as the company kept publishing the same characters, there was a chance for the right ownership or editorial staff to steer the stories in a direction that worked.
Once Nicieza replaced the original characters with his VH 2/DC-lite crap, that chance fizzled, specially when he decided to go with his poll "idea".
Acclaim's biggest mistake was letting Nicieza flush their investment down the toilet. You are generalizing the downfall of Acclaim comics on Fabian (who holds his share of the blame) and letting Acclaim (who holds most of the blame) off the hook.
If going forward means becoming a DC imprint and increasing the number of crossovers with DC and Marvel I'd rather go sideways, in a zig-zag fashion to avoid being touched by thatI think I speak for most of us when I say we would love for lightning to strike twice and the original Valiant Universe to return, as it was...perfect in our minds eye and not at all deviate from what we all loved best.

His Krypto-testicles finally fell, so he goes by Superman Prime now.Dr. Solar wrote:Yup.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:So seriously.....DC has 52 different universes now...?
Though Superboy-Prime has been running amuck and destroying them when he gets angry and throws a tantrum.
It's good to know that there's a Superman in the multiverse who's a real man and knows what the right thing to do is.
Death to the multiverse.
And you know what, in this instance it doesn't feel wrong to root for the bad guy.

I wonder if MOTA knows that a human male's testicles generally descend before BIRTH, and not PUBERTY.....ManofTheAtom wrote:His Krypto-testicles finally fell, so he goes by Superman Prime now.Dr. Solar wrote:Yup.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:So seriously.....DC has 52 different universes now...?
