sniff, sniff.....the saddest story you'll ever read
Please read this auction description. But try not to cry.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... em_guide:1
For those of you who just can't bear to read it for fear of being overcome with sadness, I'll give you the basic story.
The seller needs to sell his entire comic collection because it's driving his family apart!
"I am just a man who is in danger of losing his whole life because he couldn't see what was really important to him."
Apparently, the one thing he's always considered to be the one CONSTANT in his life, his comic book addiction, is now coming between him and his family.
Why?
Is it because he's spending too much money? Or wasting too much time?
No.
The comics simply take up too much space.
Now, his comics are CREATING the bad times!
So he has decided that, in order to keep his family together (and make room for them in his house) he must SACRIFICE his entire collection for an opening bid of $30,000.
They are obviously worth much more than that. Look at the pictures. They just JUMP OUT at you. Comics from the '80's and '90's have NEVER looked better.
If you are as concerned as I am, please consider helping by sending money directly to his paypal account, which he has humbly provided.
I, for one, am seriously eyeing his $80,000 buy-it-now. I JUST WANT TO HELP KEEP THIS FAMILY TOGETHER!!!!
Remember, as hard as it might be to believe, he is NOT trying to prey on our sympathy. Which WOULD be easy in a case like this.

75 long boxes @ about $5-$10 wholesale a box = $375-$750 wholesale value for this lot.400yrs wrote:According to ebay, it's $4.80 insertion fee for anything over $500. So not that much. He's still throwing that money away, of course.
Retail is about $20-$30 a long box.

They're late 80's/early 90's. We have no idea what's in it, but there are approximately 8 books from the late 80's/early 90's that are worth more than $15.superman-prime wrote:i wish i could buy a few long boxes of comics for 10 bones
the best ive ever done is 35
We also have no idea of condition.
And that's wholesale. That means you are intending to resell them and you have access.

I feel for this guy as no one should have to lose their family over their comic collection.
he could always be more sensible about his addiction
maybe he could slowly sell them in runs on ebay its not difficult.
The asking price is crazy IMO
i get offered collections like this often and wouldnt pay a quarter of what he wants im afraid and if anyone else does they must have more money than sense.
$10,000 tops and only if they are all stunning copies and unbroken runs with all keys from that time period.
I notice the auction was canceled without a sale.
Lets hope someone made him a reasonable offer and he can get on with his life.
Although if outside of his family comics being his major love how can now get on with his life if a very large chunk of it is now missing. Weird.
I had a girl friend around 15 years ago who i split with ( several times
Upon hearing why i wanted to leave her the 1st time she ignored what i said and blurted out " i always knew i would come third behind your friends and your comics " !!
So unfair she never came behind my friends
