1st Meeting
So when are we going to have our first Deathmate fan convention? Who are the speakers going to be? Any door prizes? What's this I hear about Deathmate 2010?
Confession time:
I do not own, not have I read in any form all of Deathmate. I also never read the Magnus crossover with Predator at all, never even saw a copy. And I think I'm missing part of the X-O/Iron Man bit.
I guess the distribution list worked differently for crossovers.
Anyway, of the story I have, I actually really liked the Ninjak story with the girl, it made it seem like there may actually be prior connection between the universes, and it made me want to read the story of the two of them as bed-buddies.
Also liked Maniac shooting Hydrich.
But again, I never read the whole story.

Re: 1st Meeting
It was scheduled for 2003, to commemorate the 10th anniversary. Rob Liefeld was announced as president and keynote speaker.possumgrease wrote:So when are we going to have our first Deathmate fan convention? Who are the speakers going to be? Any door prizes? What's this I hear about Deathmate 2010?
We're still waiting for him to show up.

I actually think Deathmate Black was a pretty decent book, probably the best out of all of them. The sad thing is they could have done some good stories with Deathmate, but they went in a very dumb direction. Any time you have a crossover where the two universes merge or are assumed to be the same (non-canon), chances are it is going to suck. X-Men and the New Teen Titans may have been the only good crossover story to work from that premise.

I really liked the prologue story. I remember it got me really excited for the rest of the books until I read them. As for the rest of the books all I really remember is being disappointed on how fast Sting (the Leutinent) got killed. For an omega harbinger with all of that power he was killed very fast in his only scene. I think the potential for this cross-over could have been great, but seemed not to get there. Overall I liked the valiant book (blue and yellow), but not the image ones.

That would explain why I had prologue and yellow and blue. Somewhere alongs the way I lost blue. I like the way this thread went though: good concept, poor execution. We have some fanfic writers here, how would YOU have written Deathmate?caxiotis wrote:I really liked the prologue story. Strangely Deathmate is one of the comics that got me into loving VALIANT, even as a teen, I realized that Image was nothing more than showy art and stunts (like showing an undead woman doin it with a guy, or one of liefeld's many wolverine clone's ripping the spine out of a guy) while that did knock my socks off, in shock factor, but it didn't capture what something that my favorite comics had.... now i realize that "something" was called a plot. But in deathmate.. while hard to follow, i did like the art well in a couple of comics at least, (the vomitorium issue, and I think the one before it?) In the credits I read that the artists were Valiant guys, so I picked up X-O 17 and 25 (half of my VALIANT Collection at that time) and sure enough, they had a similar water coloresque coloring, and that's what caused my VALIANT collection to go from fewer than 10 up to 500+

so i found all the deathmates in the quarter bin at my local store.
what i found odd was that the Prolouge, blue, yellow, Epilogue had a story to them...........while the two image issues were just kinda their?
also in the back of the Prolouge, was that Rob Liefields art for the Prophet backup story? because if that was it looked halfway decent..........
what i got out of Deathmate was origionaly was wanting to Learn more about Prophet and how him and the gemancer were going to save the universe..............too bad they never really followed through with that story.
Though Prophet was basicly playing the part of Gilad.

Dude save yourself the hassle and stay at home and have a big poo instead.iggy101us wrote:This actually makes me want to complete my Deathmate set. I never got the Red due to delays.
Deathmate Red was just another Liefeld book that had some pictures of bloodshot in the odd panel who said nothing and had nothing to do with the sstory which had no begining middle or end. It also Had Gilad in the last few panels whihc also made no sense. Was this a deathmate book?
Was there a mention of deathmate inside.

RL was like most IMAGE artists. He either did great stuff or it was all flash and no substance. It'd be nice to have it, just to finish that section of the collection.worldsbestcomics wrote:Has it come out yet or is Liefeld still working on it?xodacia81 wrote:I remember not being able to read the Image parts in one sitting due to headaches and also am STILL waiting to find RED.![]()
Serously though. Red doesn't have much for story but Rob did draw some killer Bloodshot panels.
