Quantum Leap Mini Series & Sci Fi Trades
Anyone know why this series was canceled? I remember reading that it was because Universal objected to the content or something.
Anyone know what that was?
And why were the Sci Fi trades canceled?

No, Acclaim solicited two issues (out of four) of a Quantum Leap mini series by William Messner-Lobs.Heath wrote:Are you talking about the Quantum Leap series from Innovation?
It was supposed to be part of their sci fi imprint with Sliders and Waterworld.
They even ran an ad for it in their VH 2 titles.
As for the trades, Nicieza spoke a LOT about them in his column and, toward the end of the line, they ran an ad for them in Previews.
They were going to be Mystery Science Theater 3000 trades with old Gold Key science fiction stories and Magnus reprints.

The way Nicieza spoke about this project, he made it sound like the crowning achivement of his publishing plan.Chiclo wrote:I would kill a man in front of his own grandmother to get those published.
That is the greatest thing I've ever heard involving the name Acclaim.

And I'd gladly kill the grandmother next if I could get in on that MST3000 book myself. How could you not like a book like that? Definitely, without a doubt, the coolest Acclaim idea everChiclo wrote:I would kill a man in front of his own grandmother to get those published.ManofTheAtom wrote:They were going to be Mystery Science Theater 3000 trades with old Gold Key science fiction stories and Magnus reprints.

I loved that show!
"Magnus, can I have my go-go boots back when you're done dancing?"
Magnus
"Not until you return my 50 1's!" or "50 I's!" I can't make out what he wants back.
MST3K Guy
"Hey, look - he's doing 'the Waffle Iron'!"

Man that sereis could have been so much greatness if it had just reached frutation.
How many different divisions did Acclaim have publishing comic books?
So far I know of:
Valiant Heroes
Windjammer
Armada
Sci-Fi (they did publish sliders & quantum leap right? at least partially?)
Classics Illustrated
and I just learned of a "True Crime" division with Acclaims label on it
Are there any other parts that I don't know of yet?

They also published a series of children's books based on the Disney characters like Hercules, and books with the animated version of the Tick.

Armada was mainly Magic the Gathering comics, so those belong to whoever owns those characters since they were licensed comics.thePike wrote:Not that any of it really belongs in the VH1 universe anyway - but out of curiosity did Dino & the VEI Gang get rights to all of these "extra-cirricular" titles with the auction as well? Or were they purchased by some other 3rd party?
Same for the Disney and Tick comics.
Windjammer was creator-owned stuff, so that belongs to those creators.
VEI should own the True Crime stuff, I think.

I don't think there was a True Crime division, but they had a Crime Fiction imprint that had The Grackle by Mike Baron and Paul Gulacy and Armed and Dangerous by Bob Hall.thePike wrote: Tue Dec 11, 2007 8:51 pm![]()

I thought Windjammer was creator owned, but I'm not sure on the ownership of the crime properties. I think in a recent interview Bob Hall mentioned having finished some issues of Armed and Dangerous that went unpublished after Acclaim ceased publishing. Not sure if he could legally publish them himself or if VEI owns the properties now.

Some serious thread archaeology here

A small but complete summary:
Armada -- Magic the Gathering, Mutant Chronicles, Baywatch
Armada/Humor -- Bad Eggs
Armada/Crime Fiction -- Armed & Dangerous, Gravediggers, The Grackle
Armada/Science Fiction -- Killer Instinct, Killer Instinct/Nintendo Power, Sliders, Waterworld
Some of these titles were/are missing the Crime/Science Fiction label/logo on their covers tho, or had been published before they added it.
Acclaim Books -- Adventure Zone
Acclaim Books/Fox Kids -- The Tick
Acclaim Books Study Guide -- Classics Illustrated
and as non-Valiant Acclaim book -- N.I.O.

And I don't think Alien could do anything except for Bad Eggs and maybe N.I.O. (besides the Adventure Zone stuff that's Valiant anyway).
